Some fun stuff with the Starfighter

We take off from Miramar Fightertown and fly to Edwards AFB, famous test center of the USAF. With the afterburners just slightly engaged, even with full brakes applied, you cannot stop the plane from moving forward

But of course we are here to apply full afterburners. The brutal force that pushes you cannot be described. And when you later switch off the afterburner at level flight, you will be pushed forward so hard as if somebody had applied full brakes

Having a look around near Carlsbad, north of San Diego at 7000 ft

Let’s bring her up to 40,000 ft. Do this kind of flying for more than 14 minutes and you’d run out of fuel

At 61.000 ft, which is the plane’s service ceiling, that contrail below the plane’s nose is a commercial airliner, probably flying at half our height

I cheat now a little bit and, by using the “Y” and “F4” keys, bring her first up to 77,000 ft

This is the same location but with the clouds removed

And now at almost 80,000 ft

Looks like outer space

Ok, back to reality, we are close to Edwards

Now the fun part starts: landing. Again. But this time I know how to do it 😊

And what is your business here?

Any attempt to stretch fuel is guaranteed to increase headwinds

Definitely a Buzz Lightyear moment there Bernd. Great set of shots. I suspect the view from up there in RL would generate huge feelings of fragility for the world down below.

Ryzen 9 7900X, Corsair H150 AIO cooler, 64 Gb DDR5, Asus X670E Hero m/b, 3090ti, 13Tb NVMe, 8Tb SSD, 16Tb HD, 55" Philips 4k HDR monitor, EVGA 1600w ps, all in Corsair 7000D airflow case. Sims in use - 2020, 2024, XP-12 and -11, FSX/SE, P3Dv4.5 and v5.4. DCS and AFS2 installed but rarely used

Thank you all very much for commenting on my screenies. And Andy, the view from 80,000 ft was certainly something I would love to do in RL, maybe in my next life. For now, the sim is good enough for me 🙂

Love the Starfighter and the new KNKX 🙂

Great screenshots.

Reading this was funny as I did the same fight with the Hawk KNKX to KEDW 🙂
