Help, I deleted the add-on.xml file

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I accidentally deleted the add-on.xml file from my p3dv5 folder and I do not have a backup. I have some orbx stuff but also a lot of airports, freeware etc.

I haveo idea if my scenery is displayed correctly now but concerning my deleted file I guess it doesn't. How can I get this file back? I wanted to install misty moorings alaska stuff but I screwed up.

I noticed that p3d does not create this xml file by itself. The backup version of this file is also gone.

How can I recreate this add-on.xml file?

Any help would be great!

Jozeff

If you knew what addon the 'xml' file was pertaining to that would be a start.

At least then you would know what addon to re-install to get it back.

Yep, I emptied it.

I have found 2 older backups of p3dv5  on an external drive. These contain 2 different add-on.xml files... if I could merge these that would be a start.  I had a rather large file so I must be missng alot.

Is the add-on.xml file needed if you have everything listed in scenery.cfg fIle or am I confused here?

I believe that if you have your addon folders with the xml file for that addon in the P3D Addons folder in the My Documents folder on your PC that it will prompt you to enable each addon it finds when you start P3D.  This will start the process of recreating the addon.xml file that it uses at each startup.

I know I know ... i ran CCleaner somewhere  in between After installing some stuff. At the end of the day I realized my addonxml file was gone for good...

I can use one file I found on the external hard drive and start from there. I hope that someone knows  how t merge these files. Can I just copy paste entry's from one file to another?

Thanks in advance!!

Another thing that might work is if you still have the installer for whichever P3D version you are running, try to repair the Client through the installer program and it may write a fresh copy of the file for you.  Then once it scans the addons folder it will add those entries when you start the program.

One suggestion -- if you use Lorby's Add-On Organizer, you can create xml files by clicking "Add Scenery" then click on "Add to add-on.xml" then in the drop-down titled "Add-On XML" select "Create A New One" and fill in the remainder of the fields and click "Submit".

Hope this helps!

Happy Holidays...

Or use SIMstarter and use the SimConfigBackup. 🙂

If you use Addon-Organizer each time you add scenery to P3D make a backup with it as I do this way you can restore the last good setup.
