This is a pretty controversial topic in civilian flight sims. A lot of people believe damage, crash, and catastrophic failures to be inappropriate.

So to answer your question, the answer is no. Personally I think ripping an engine nacelle off with a botched go around and then doing a miracle landing with a flaming wing is peak accomplishment, but you and I are in the minority.

Take-offs are optional, landings are mandatory.
The only time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire.
To make a small fortune in aviation you must start with a large fortune.

There's nothing less important than the runway behind you and the altitude above you.
It's better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air, than in the air wishing you were on the ground.

I'd love it, but I can see why they never did... people would be flying planes into stuff on purpose all the time.

Though I do remember the epic destructable planes in Flight Unlimited 😄

This is not about appropriate or not, this is about aircraft manufacturers not wanting their aircraft being shown as damaged and/or crash landed. Crashing is not really a good marketing point for planes, in-sim or not.

Affirmative it is also the same in the Sim racing where the manufacturers see in bad eye that their models are accident. This is a principle that has existed since the first simulations.

Then it is about appropriate... from simmers, but also from the manufacturers perspective.

As an aside, I don't imagine Boeing approves of their F18's being blown apart in DCS, but it's possible.

A Milsim is different. A military vessel always carries the risk of getting violently destroyed. It's ocupational hazard.

Something that can't be said for civil aviation, where the entire point is to safely get from A to B. 😉

We absolutely don't disagree on that point. I was only responding to the notion that Manufacturers (Boeing, etc) are the ones holding back civilian sims from having a robust damage model. I want to note that Boeing doesn't send anyone a cease and desist when their 767 with a big spinny disc on top gets blown away, or when their DC-10 loaded to the brim with fuel gets shot down over Tbilisi.

There used to be visible damages in civil sims before 9/11… that was the beginning of the change in thinking.

Some addon developers, like A2A simulations, do model "wear and tear" over time. Things break, leak, or get sluggish. Nothing is prohibiting an addon dev from making their aircraft use "dirty" textures after x hours, but no devs have done that yet.

AFAIK, A2A is coming to MSFS.

You can just imagine the number of fake "big plane crash" videos that would appear on YouTube claiming to be real if that feature was available 😄

And therein lies the problem.  In the past, only the most dim-witted of citizens of this world would have believed the cartoon like simulator to be absolutely real life. Today, the graphics are so realistic we are not surprised when even otherwise skeptical citizens are fooled by photo like imagery. Crossing that line from obviously imaginary to possibly real, results in many more sensible citizens being fooled and then reacting in negative and fearful ways to click bait type You Tube videos where no such reaction is either warranted or necessary.  Understandably, those organisations which are prepared to assist game developers by allowing their products to be licensed for use and perhaps providing the developer with technical insight into their products, do so on the quite reasonable understanding that their products cannot be shown in a bad light. 

You could argue that an Airbus can still be speared into the ground, but when it bounces back into the air again all in one piece the viewer, even if initially fooled is soon reoriented with the imaginary nature of the presentation. 

And anyway, realistic damage simulation is no small feat to replicate in all the different circumstances in which it could possibly occur. If it existed, that would be a simulator all of its own!

There are some on flightsim.to but I'm not sure there's an easy way to find them. One or two have been listed as "Dirty" though, so I'd start by entering that in the search box.
