A320X for MSFS 2020

Featured Replies

Hello everyone

I'm new here. After years of using Boeing(NGX) I've decided to switch for Airbus. My favorite one is FSL A320X. As for now it's not available for MSFS 2020. Anything looming about, please ?

Don't know, but I will welcome you to Avsim.

My computer: ABS Gladiator Gaming PC featuring an Intel 10700F CPU, EVGA CLC-240 AIO cooler (dead fans replaced with Noctua fans), Asus Tuf Gaming B460M Plus motherboard, 16GB DDR4-3000 RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD, EVGA RTX3070 FTW3 video card, dead EVGA 750 watt power supply replaced with Antec 900 watt PSU.

Welcome to Avsim. You might visit our MFS2020 Forum for answer to your questions.

Thank you.

Your best bet would be the FlyByWire 320, but it's not on the same level as the FSL320. Read more about it to know what to expect.

Thanks, guys. Will keep eye on MSFS 2020 forum.

Regards.

Welcome to Avsim. 🙂

Three options with MSFS, first there is the default A320, which is okay but not super-in-depth although it does have the advantage of being ready-installed with the sim, second the FBW community project tweaks to the default A320, which adds a lot of realism to it and is easy to install since it is free and available from here. The FBW version benefits from the input of very many people, including lots of people who work on the real thing, so it's very good indeed. There is also the forthcoming Fenix Simulations A320, which has recently entered beta testing, so should theoretically be available in a few months. The Fenix A320 uses the ProSim A320 as its basis, which is a sim aimed at use for training on the real thing, so it does appear to be potentially the most realistic add-on A320 for a PC-based entertainment flight simulator we will have ever seen.

It's worth noting that even if you decided that the FBW A320 was something you like, this is not the same aeroplane as the Fenix one. The Fenix variant is an A320CEO (current engine option) whereas the FBW and the default MSFS version which it uses as a starting point, are both A320NEOs (new engine option).

The principal differences between the two variants are:

  Airbus A320-200 Airbus A320neo
Length 37.57 m / 123 ft 3 in 37.57 m / 123 ft 3 in
Wingspan 34.10 m / 111 ft 10 in or 35.80 m / 117 ft 5 in with sharklets 35.80 m / 117 ft 5 in
Wing area 122.60 sq m / 1,320 sq ft 123.00 sq m / 1,324 sq ft
Height 11.76 m / 38 ft 7 in 11.76 m / 38 ft 7 in
Engines 2 2
Thrust per engine 120 kN / 27,000 lbf 121 kN / 27,120 lbf
Total thrust 240 kN / 54,000 lbf 242 kN / 54,240 lbf
MTOW 77,000 kgs / 170,000 lbs 78,000 kgs / 172,000 lbs
Range 5,700 km / 3,078 nm or 6,200 km / 3,350 nm with sharklets 6,300 km / 3,400 nm
Cruise speed Mach 0.78 (963km/h or 598mph) Mach 0.82 (1,013km/h or 629mph
Two-class capacity 140-170 passengers 150-180 passengers
Maximum capacity 190 passengers 189 passengers

So the NEO and the CEO are very similar aeroplanes in terms of operation, and for the most part you'd be hard pressed to spot the difference between one and the other when looking at them. The cockpit avionics are different for the two, but not vastly different and operationally, the only really big difference I ever come across when working on them, is that the NEO's engines take longer to crank up because they are a bit more fragile when warm; this is also true for the B737-8 (aka the Max), since it too uses larger and more modern CFM International LEAP. So the start up sequence is somewhat delayed to allow these newer engines to get up and running without getting damaged, although when they are completely cold (i.e. the thing has perhaps been sat there overnight), they do tend to crank up a bit quicker. This is one of the reasons why we tend to get the engines cranked up on the NEO and the MAX as soon as the pushback tug is pulling straight, rather than waiting to get to the TRP.

Appreciate that, Chock.

I gonna wait for a bit and see what happen. Don't really want to use FSX anymore. Hard to believe, FSL  could miss the MSFS 2020 opportunity. Will see.

The FSL A320 for FSX and P3D jumps through a lot of sub-routine hoops to enable it to do what it does as well as it does, so I assume it is no small thing to get all that over to MSFS. It took years for that kind of thing to make it into FSX/P3D and for a long time lots of people thought it might not even be possible for FSX and P3D to be able to support an add-on of such comparative fly by wire complexity in comparison to something like a B737. Of course where there is a will, there is usually a way, which is why FSL did eventually manage it after around six years or more of development work, but whether they will want to go through all that again to effectively arrive in third place for MSFS behind the free FBW version and the Fenix version which is as I understand it, aiming for a sub 100 Dollar price tag, is another matter, given that the FSL FSX and P3D A320s come in at well over the 100 dollar mark.

Some of it comes down to what they hope to achieve and the price they want to charge for having done the work, given that at least some of the work is effectively already done; we know that FSX and P3D had a big enough user base to support the development of not one, not two, but actually three very realistic Boeing 737 NGs in the form of the iFly version, the PMDG version and the Ariane version, so who knows? Maybe MSFS is big enough to support three or four different takes on the A320? After all, there are numerous high end A320s for P3D and FSX including the Aerosoft, Black Box and the FSL versions.

One thing is certain, there are a lot of very cool and complex short-to-medium range airliners on the way for MSFS.

Yes, indeed. We have to realize how hard for developers is to adopt hightech, top realistic product into  regular flightsim. I still have FSX with ORBX global basic, just in case. Honestly price doesn't matter to me as long as I can get top quality realistic product. Are these values possible with free or cheap stuff ? I don't think so. Of course, this is just my point of view.

You have a nice weekend Chock.

Hello, where to find info about switching from P3D FSDLabs Airbus to MSFS Airbus ? After 5 yrs i decided to swap from P3D to MSFS but i am not happy with the results, how to arrive in a setting where i can use Simbrief, Vatsim, Vpilot, GSX ground handling as i was used to, i feel very unfamiliar and regret my switch... ;-(
