How to Really Annoy Parks Canada...

Featured Replies

I took my first trip on a plane since pre-covid last week and headed west to the Rockies for a week of skiing and other high altitude fun.  Absolutely beautiful and great for the soul after the past two years.

Of course I wanted to retrace some of my travels in MSFS...I flew from Banff (CYBA) out to Lake Louise, I can't imagine Parks Canada would take kindly to such shenanigans in real life!

Dave: My first flight also after ~2 years of break...was recently on an UAL A320 to O'Hare...how mundane was it compared to yours, here...?

Glad, too, you re-lived the experience a bit, virtually, and dangerously...

I'm going to two face-to-face conferences (one in Halifax, the other in St. John's, NFLD) in June--the first time I will have travelled on a plane since just before the pandemic started.

I'm excited to travel again, but ... I don't know what to expect.

Personally I found every thing felt normal again pretty much right away...I was actually surprised after two years how normal it felt.  My next flight is to Quebec City next week, that will be my first in-person conference in two years as well and first time on a A220 for the YHZ-YUL leg so I'm quite looking forward to that.

Enjoy your time on the east coast!

Thanks. Good to hear. As for the east coast, I'm originally from New Brunswick, so this is a homecoming of sorts. 🙂

Concerning flights (all on Air Canada), I'll be taking three aircraft I've never been on before: two 777s and an A220:

  • YVR-YUL - 777-300ER
  • YUL-YHZ - A220
  • YHZ-YYT - Dash 8-400
  • YYT-YYZ - A220
  • YYZ-YVR - 777-200LR

Excellent, that’s quite the fleet variety!   I flew on a 777-300ER a number of years ago YYZ-YVR and actually paid for the upgrade to premium economy as the cost was surprisingly reasonable and it meant I got to sit just forward of the engines and listen to those GE90s growl. 🙂

It was a really nice, spacious aircraft and my premium economy seat was about the size / legroom of a business class seat on a narrowbody so quite the experience,

My flying tip on the Q400 is if you want a quieter flight, sit behind the engine (unlike a jet) but if you want the full engine sound experience, sit forward.

Nice to hear about the 777-300ER. My university is paying for my professional development opportunity (the two conferences I'm attending), so unfortunately, I won't be able to upgrade.

I've flown many times on Q400s, e.g., on Horizon down to KSEA and KPDX and back. I'm not sure where I'm sitting, but I'll keep that in mind ... although it seems to me that it doesn't necessarily matter where you sit in the Q400: it's loud no matter what. 🙂

Very true, it's all relative!

I work in government so no free upgrades but I do splurge every once and a while out of pocket for a better experience.
