March 23, 20224 yr Hello! I'd like to say hello to all of you. I haven't flight simmed since the FS2002 days due to time. I'm looking forward to again diving in to flight sims as my free time will only increase over the coming years. I have a great deal to learn and look forward to spending many hours here. Regards, Dave
March 23, 20224 yr Welcome to Avsim! There are choices in flight simulators these days. XPlane, P3D, and MSFS immediately spring to my mind as options for civilian flight simming. I've been out of the combat flight sim arena for a long time, so I don't know what's available in that genre. My computer: ABS Gladiator Gaming PC featuring an Intel 10700F CPU, EVGA CLC-240 AIO cooler (dead fans replaced with Noctua fans), Asus Tuf Gaming B460M Plus motherboard, 16GB DDR4-3000 RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD, EVGA RTX3070 FTW3 video card, dead EVGA 750 watt power supply replaced with Antec 900 watt PSU.

I have CFS 1, 2 and 3 but never got around to playing them. They are on the list if I can still get any of them to run. Regarding civilian sims, I'm exploring options now. I have FS2004 and FSX from release but again, never really had time. Looking forward to a great deal of exploration. Thanks to all for the welcome.

If you really want to use FSX, just buy the Steam version as it corrects a lot of issues that were left in the boxed versions. For CFS3, Over Flanders Fields Between Heaven and Hell is a visual and feature massive update that runs on the basic CFS3 engine. It's world war I and the enemy are in slow moving box kites. The sim bindings are all the same as CFS3, and very much like FSX. Almost Identical, except for the targeting and shooting commands. So it's easier to learn. https://www.overflandersfields.com/ They also have the World War II version which is very similar. Wings Over the Reich. https://www.wingsoverthereich.com/ The strong points of both are the 'mood' and immersion which is top notch, compared to the rather sterile presentations in IL2 and Rise of Flight. Weak point: But the graphics are not as good. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.
