I built the below specs couple years ago was wondering if a CPU upgrade would help me with MSFS 2020 at all or will the upgrade show little results?  Appreciate it!

Intel Core I7- 10700K

32 GB of Ram

3080TI Graphics Card

Little results, even more little if you're running 2K/4K. Wouldn't do it. 10700K is a nice CPU.

I think it really would be a great thing for you to do, and I'll give you 20 cents-on-the-dollar for your entire computer. Actually, I hate to put it this way, but I think it's important to be honest...are you crazy, or do you have excess cash and you just can't find anything useful to spend it on?

No excess cash but I really don’t fully know all computers and what’s best.  Right now I am cpu limited.   So was just curious if the 12th generations would eliminate that.

Nothing will "eliminate" that. You are always going to be one or the other really. You will probably see far better results just tweaking your settings than a cpu swap unless your going for a weird 1080p high refresh rate setup for msfs for some odd reason.

That is a pretty robust computer.  If the CPU has a good cooler, you might get a little more performance by overclocking the CPU.

My computer: ABS Gladiator Gaming PC featuring an Intel 10700F CPU, EVGA CLC-240 AIO cooler (dead fans replaced with Noctua fans), Asus Tuf Gaming B460M Plus motherboard, 16GB DDR4-3000 RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD, EVGA RTX3070 FTW3 video card, dead EVGA 750 watt power supply replaced with Antec 900 watt PSU.

Now, what about a 9700k overclocked to 4.9, does it make sense to jump to a 12900k? or is it better to wait another generation?

I run 4k with a 3080ti also.

The answer should not be hard to find.
A new CPU and motherboard to pay for and most likely no difference in the performance of the GPU heavy MSFS.

No, wait. Also with dx12 getting usable, it seems advisable to wait and see how one's system performs in dx12. At least for people running 5 GHz cpus and 3000 series GPUs 😉
