My 5 year old 11GB 1080ti chews through MSFS VR like butter, I don't have a real reason to upgrade yet.

Asus Maximus X Hero Z370/ Windows 10
MSI Gaming X 1080Ti (2100 mhz OC Watercooled)
8700k (4.7ghz OC Watercooled)
32GB DDR4 3000 Ram
500GB SAMSUNG 860 EVO SERIES SSD M.2

I am pretty sure that it is designed to use the VRAM you have available anyway, chasing more VRAM so that you see it empty is probably a losing battle anyway. With a 3080Ti you have enough horsepower to keep the FPS high regardless of swapping stuff in and out of your VRAM. Also, main culprit for filling it up is not so much your monitor resolution as are the texture sizes you are using. Fenix for example are using 8K textures for everything and thus giving us incredible detail up close, but that eats up VRAM. If you scale down to the 4K option it is exactly the same unless you are zooming in the dirt on every button for an instagram type photo and you are saving a lot of VRAM in the process. Same goes for add-on scenery with hi-res textures. I would say a high end card with fast memory bus like a 3080Ti is going to be more than enough for years to come. If you are really fussed about seeing lots of VRAM empty you can go for the AMD cards which all have 16GB. But, guess what; they are slower exactly because filling the VRAM is not what kills the FPS...

It's all relative; I have one of the fastest 1080Ti ever and it struggles at 2K with everything maxed out. If I dial back some settings, sure it's OK and just about maintains 30 fps. Would I call that "butter"? Definitely not. But as I am poor now I am keeping it for as long as I can (that is, until the 4xxx series comes out and I can buy a 3080Ti for cheap).

Are you running all three 4K monitors off your 8gb 3080?

No, i don`t even have a 3080 yet, ( but would go on this if i have to ) i use an ( relative old ) MSI 2080 super 8GB and it still works fine with settings not at ultra at all. But you simply not need all at ultra..

By the way my TLOD is at 160 and my OLOD is at 140 and that is OK for me.

But yes i am on 3 4K monitors and this work very well, i am docking the 2D pop up panels on a second monitor and allways have LNM on the third monitor and if i allways set my mouse on the  MSFS screen based parts, this also are the docking 2D pop ups, i have no probs with my frames/smoothnes and so yes it is working fine for me !

cheers 😉

Back before SU5 was released, I was seeing VRAM usage up to 18GB 😲.

It's a lot better now but can still be pretty high.

I just done a flight in the Fenix and saw VRAM go over 14GB when I arrived at the destination, Malmo (not a big airport).

Yes 3090 with an LG 48CX monitor. Settings are 4K Ultra, 200 TLOD.

Running Amd 6900XT with 16GB Vram. Happy with this one. Otherwise I would have chosen the 3090, but invested that money in watercooling and processor. Running 3440x1440, or higher.
