Anyone fly the Fenix/PMDG with keyboard only?
If you are doing this because of the cost of the hardware, a decent joystick on its own without any pedals or separate throttle quadrant will cost the same as the Fenix itself. Instead of buying an add-on just buy the joystick and fly with the really incredible free planes like trh Fly by wire or the included for free iniBuild planes.

Performance of 6700K Skylake and high speed DDR4 RAM
Makinen11 replied to SAAB340's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcExtremely well documented testing, it gives me a good idea on what memory to buy for my upcoming skylake build as well. Thanks Saab, we appreciate it!

A prisoner of FS9...HELP! or AKA, Cranbrook, B.C.
How do you people get so clear textures so far away!?! I've been fighting blurries for years with no solution... I'll either have to bear a very ugly noticeable ring around my aircraft as it is loading the high detail textures or I'll have clear textures all around my departure area and look good during climb and then as soon as I move over a new photoreal area it will load nothing and stay a blurred mess... Could you please share these settings that you have in your FS9.cfg? I have: TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=9.5 TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=4.5 TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS=4 which is the only one that loads the textures and doesn't stay blurred, but on the other hand it is a very small area around my aircraft and it is noticeably ugly in the distance...Nothing like your photos!

New scenery for Sofia and some help with it
Hi there I know it's a topic from months ago but I installed Sofia evolution v3 for FS9 from the http://vrcreations.webs.com/downloads website. Installed it all was good but I had one problem. Whenever I try to park near the gates it crashes into an invisible building although my aircraft is still way before the gate and on its way there. There is something wrong with some invisible wall there. Has anyone else experienced crashes into buildings for the FS9 version like me?

AirSimmer Customer Support - Absolutely Appalling
Wow there are still people willing to buy the Airsimmer crap even now, even after the tons that have been written about how it works and how it flies.... I'm not as amazed at how the moderator replied as I am at people needing an Airbus for FS 9 so much. If I were a developer I would already have something under way. It seems not that hard to do it better than Airsimmer and I would have a market on my own. IFly A320 anyone

Any Radeon HD7970 Owners Yet?
Makinen11 replied to cgbart's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etcMaybe it's your specific card. I have wide-tent and other modes as well. I am using FS9 with 6950 2gb though, and I was using everything at max and the performance was bearable in heavy clouds, the image quality was superb though. I'll see how this fares performance-wise and how much I notice the poorer image and I'll report back. Thank you.Edit: For some reason I get a black screen with Wide-Tent... Only Box works in FS9...

Makinen11 replied to cgbart's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etcThis is the post I was referring to. Maybe I wasn't clear enough. Can someone direct me to those settings?

Makinen11 replied to cgbart's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etcYes but I was talking mainly about FS9... anyone care to share the link with the Catalyst Center settings mentioned above?

Any Radeon HD7970 Owners Yet?
Makinen11 replied to cgbart's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etcThing is though, I had a GTX480 and a GTX280 before that and they both sucked at image quality compared to AMD's cards... They didn't have the same AA mode supersampling that AMD has.

Any Radeon HD7970 Owners Yet?
Makinen11 replied to cgbart's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etcI too still fly FS9 and try to make it look as nice as possible with my 6950 but I have the FPS problem in the clouds...Which is ridiculous if you think about it, a modern pc struggling with FS9, not even FSX.So I am interested to see the results of the new 79xx series testing. And also someone mentioned some recommended settings for 69xx series AMD cards for FS9?? Can you post a link please? As for the newer cards not playing DX9 so well, it was about time they let this old code die and design new hardware from scratch instead of carrying over parts for years and years in new GPU's. I say to hell with DX9, only problem being we don't actually have a decent flight sim that's NOT DX9 yet...

GTX570 vs GTX580
Makinen11 replied to Alec's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etcUnless you are going for super-hi resolutions in the vicinity of 2500xwhatever you don't need a 580. Get the 570, and if you get a non-reference one with better cooling you'll overclock it and get 580 performance if you think you need this much.

Hi end GPU for FS9 with max image quality?
Makinen11 replied to Makinen11's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etcIf you could comment on how the GTX 570 handles extreme AA supersampling modes and 3d clouds in FS9 and not FSX, I would be obliged... I know FSX works great with Fermi GPU's, but FS9 has different shaders and graphics, and it seems is even less optimized for AA in new GPU's. So, back to the topic I started, the 6950 2gb version I got, works well, but in some cloud situations with 3d clouds overcast and many cloud levels it still drops below 20 fps with supersamplingBUT, I am keeping it because the image in comparison with my GTX280 is so much better even though I had the settings maxed out in the V control panel.

Hi end GPU for FS9 with max image quality?
Makinen11 replied to Makinen11's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etcThank you guys for your contributions, and yes, I agree that ATI has the far more superior image quality without jaggies and shimmering. That's why I... (don't throw tomatoes just yet) sold the 5870 and bought a 6970 which should be arriving today. My logic is that if even with overkill settings the 5870 was managing something around 20 fps, the 6970 with so much more raw horsepower should keep it at 30. And even if it doesn't manage the 24x AA with supersampling, I believe it will manage the 12x medium setting which I tested and actually has no impact in image quality whatsoever. So all I can do is wait and see what my 350 euros went forAnd even if it get crippled by clouds as the 5870 with all the quality presets, at least I won't have the jaggies and shimmering I would have with all nVidia cards. What I understood was that it's not that nVidia is better suited for FS or whatever, it's just that their maximum quality settings in their control panel are like the medium-to-low in ATi control panel. So I wouldn't gain anything over my old GTX280 if I upgraded to a GTX570 with the same money as the 6970.

Hi end GPU for FS9 with max image quality?
Makinen11 replied to Makinen11's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etcThe most frustrating of all is that these cards actually kick #ss in all other games and are pretty good value for money, but clouds and super sampling is their weak spot I too can't use multi sampling, it looks totally crap and it will be a step backwards from the GTX280, I am looking to upgrade from that, not pay money to play worse. And it's frustrating because FS9 and FSX (in a little smaller degree) are NOT GPU dependant and they are supposed to be childs play for today's GPU's. Not so it seems for ATi
