P3Dv5.3 H2 CTD w/o a Trace

Featured Replies

Hi there! So this has been an ongoing frustrating issue. I can be doing a flight then start my descent into an airport for example this morning LAX and then Im switching the knobs you know typical descent stuff and all the sudden it freezes without warning it crashes. Now I have the TDR Level to override incase it does this exact same thing its supposed to stop the sim from doing. Now the CTD is a ghost without a trace I look at view all crash reports nothing, event viewer nothing, My settings are all low to medium my GPU Never overheats or anything my cpu is pretty average and stable at around 30-40% processing and my memory is mever an issue. I also looked into VRAM and has not been a problem in the past. A few weeks ago my sim was working just fine it did not crash it did not freeze or anything perfectly normal and now with no changes to the PC or Windows or anything the sim just CTD without a single trace. Is there anyone who can possible help me figure out whats going on. At this point im willing to re install P3D even if it takes 2 days to install everythkng again to get this problem fixed! I dont know wheter this is also related to Visual C++ or idk I just really want to flight sim normal again please!

Difficult to say much without more system details, but if you are satisfied the other main hardware components are OK, you could consider the possibility of a  PSU fault. It could be failing at a certain power demand level, while appearing to be otherwise working. Is it a good quality brand?

The crash will only happen if I fly into California specifically LAX! This hasnt happened before its only recent. Anywhere else I can do 2-3 legs max three before on approach into any airport it crashes to desktop with out a trace. I dont think its my PC cause it has been working just fine I have other games on there too. Maybe reinstall P3D? Ik it sucks but at this point do you think that will help it stop crashing? Cause I did do a delete generated files last week and wiped the sim but kept my addons.xml as a backup to get them back

I saw somewhere that my scenery.cfg could have been corrupted and cause the sim to crash. I do have some sceneries that are only v4 compatible and I still use the xml format. Resd something about the Lorby Addon

This is caused by scenery, probably LAX which is corrupt or not compatible. The moment it gets becomes visible, it causes the crash. I had the same issue with another airport until the developer fixed it. Regards.

Do you think I should contact fsdreamteam?

I feel like ever since I added Rikooo PHL Sunskyjet its been doing that so I uninstalled it to see and tuned my overclocked memory from 3600 to 3400

move your scenery sliders way to the left and try, mos times this causes problems mainly on arrival at an airport after a long flight...

Hi,I had the exact same issue for weeks and weeks, the sim would just randomly crash, until i manage to fix it.The issue was my motherboard bios had managed to corrupt itself and was shutting down P3Dv5.

I re updated my bios and after that no more P3D CTD,not sure if it will fix yours but worth a try.

Why don't you try deactivating or uninstalling that LAX scenery and see if the crashes happen again?

Simulator: P3Dv6.1

System Specs: Intel i7 13700K CPU, MSI Mag Z790 Tomahawk Motherboard, 32GB DDR5 6000MHz RAM, Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Video Card, 3x 1TB Samsung 980 Pro M.2 2280 SSDs, Windows 11 Home OS

I think the odds are pretty slim that it is caused by a fairly widely-used scenery like FSDT KLAX, unless your scenery files got corrupted.  If it were an incompatibility issue, there'd be a lot of others having the same problem.

One as-yet unmentioned possibility is a bad texture on an AI airplane when it comes into view.  Best way to test is to turn AI traffic off completely, fly the same flight, and see if the crash repeats.  If it doesn't, you have some detective work to determine which AI planes are within the visibility bubble (including on the ground) at that date/time.  This problem can be confused with a scenery area problem, because some carriers mostly tend to appear at certain airports...e.g. asian international carriers like Phillipine Air, Asiana, or Cathay Pacific mostly appear at west coast international hubs like LAX and SFO.
