Of course my statement was somewhat exaggerated - for good reason. It's because we have to read here all the time things like "X-Plane has to deliver eye candy/satellite imagery, otherwise it is dead." or "Who cares about yaw-roll coupling?" or similar things ...

Never seen any such thing. (but then, I deliberately don't come here that often because..... Yeah.)

If you are exaggerating statements from people who wish XP would step it up in the graphics department, then what's wrong with wanting that?

The niche of flight sims, in my opinion, spent years pretty much coasting graphically, compared to where things were going in other genres.

That goes for all sims featuring consumer aviation, from FSX forever, to FLIGHT, which was essentially FSX with nice lipstick, to P3D to Dovetail Sim, all of which anyone could, with even the slightest glance recognize as descendants of the FSX engine, with greater and lesser degrees of mostly superficial cosmetics.

People got tired of it, but really had no viable alternatives.

It was ennui at that dynamic that was fostering the general wave of interest in XP that brought Orbx and others in, in a more serious way, and probably would have ended in XP market dominance until MS pretty much smashed through expectations that they had no further interest in this market, and plopped in a sim that finally went full bore into what was possible with modern technology.

Now people are wondering how XP will respond, and being defensive is unlikely to be the right answer.

People who don't frequent this subforum for the exact reason of not wanting to get bit, or get exhausted by defenders making reality bending statements of superiority while accusing those not quite seeing it of having all sorts of passive-aggressively inferred mental and/or other deficiencies probably does Laminar few favors, either.

People come here occasionally to ask questions, see what's happening, and catch up on what progress is being made, because in the end, they are weighing the does and don'ts of a purchase.

For myself, I feel my near certainty of a day one purchase steadily becoming more and more of a wait-and-see what others "outside the bubble" have to say, when its released.

Or maybe some more concrete info as launch day approaches.

I think you are underestimating this aspect. In one of the interviews, Austin said he wants to work on MMO so that xplane users of mobile/desktop can fly together in the open world.

Guilty, though I never said it was never coming.

My fear there is indeed the costs associated with server upkeep. Software that goes that route often has to start charging subscription fees. Though I'm guessing Austin is morally opposed to that idea, you have to keep the lights on somehow...

: ) I will admit to hoping for this a bit as well. BUT I wouldn't say that Orbx's presence means it wouldn't happen. AND I wouldn't expect a public declaration that a 'loophole' had been created that could certainly invite lawsuits. For now I will be more than satisfied with Ortho4XP.

What are Ortho4XPs? And how do we download them? How much storage is required for the whole world?

Because the ennui that that you leak into the discussion in the form of "Le sigh, make my own ortho? But whyyy??" then gets slapped up the head with "You know the answers already, you know why it is the way it is, you know what's coming, go troll somewhere else." ?

Certainly anyone who alludes to mental inferiority is soundly in the category they try to put others into. These forums are mostly quiet most of the time for obvious reasons: M$ has cheap and easy eye candy.

Also, you have yet to address my list of why xp12 will be 'better'. You disagree? Why? Are you one of those posters? If you really want to dig into differences in flight models, just say so.

Search the youtubes and googles and bings for help on ortho4xps. But I will warn you (while pretending you don't know what it is): It takes patience and can be a pain in the butt to get working.

What? I actually have no idea what they are? Why does it take patience? I repeat. What are Ortho4XP orthos? How does one download them and how much storage do they require? I have most of Forkboys orthos and Spain HD. (1.5TB). I would agree that both require a weeks patience though. Is that what you are on about or is it something else?

I repeat. Search the youtubes and the googles and the bings for informations on how to get to the ortho4xps. It will blow your socks off!!

What on earth?

I felt there was nothing to address.

Usually, when expressing an opinion, I myself will preface it with something like "I believe" or "I suspect" or something along those lines, in an acknowledgement that my own views are not irrefutably handed down by some deity and are open to question and debate.

You, in contrast made several blank/blanket statements as if they were facts-for-all, and in a later post doubled down on that: Posting facts and realizing the reality of investment dynamics? Call me oink oink!

Reinforcing your seemingly firm belief in your own apparent rightness, which I found informative as to any further of your posts I come across.

That's a cute assessment. Capability improvements are indeed facts. Does a seaplane rock according to the 3D wave motion in M$? Sure doesn't. Will trees in XP disappear like they do in M$? Sure won't. Do they move in M$? Sure don't. I'm struggling to see how those are opinions? Therefore, XP is more capable. More realistic in quite a few areas in both eye candy and realism. Many call that 'better'. What do you call it?

You seem to think indie devs are puttering around on the golf course instead of writing new code to compete with M$'s massive funding resources and then label their efforts subpar.

And using your own tone, I reply that you seem to think that Asobo must be sitting around on beaches in the tropics quaffing drinks with umbrellas etc, instead of constantly writing their own new code to address any important deficiencies they have an interest in addressing.

Continuing in your own tone: who do you think has the better amount of resources to win that race?

This is my last reply to you, as I am embarrassed at my own silliness in following you down the rabbit hole.

OK I've searched. Seems like voodoo. My socks are still on. Do you really expect me to do this for a product I have paid for? I will tolerate downloading stuff but not this nonsense. It's 2022. Are you serious? You want me to create my own scenery??!!

So still nothing intelligent to contribute to the conversation regarding capability differences? Noted.

Hmm, no, I never alluded to that. Asobo has been forced into certain positions by M$ and their contracts w/ M$ are going to shrink significantly after this year, at least according to their progress tracker. As for the items I have listed, they have no direct plans or answers. YOU are the one who declared that the industry "spent years pretty much coasting graphically". M$ was the one coasting...ignoring. LR has continued to make steady progress with the resources at hand. There's only so much a few graphics devs and artists can do with 24 hrs in a day (Do you have evidence to the contrary? Were they on the golf course instead??). Dovetail wasn't allowed to make progress.

YOU are the one suffering from "ennui". I have provided direct examples and data points and you refuse to address them. I'm sorry you are embarrassed by your own emotions and lack of desire to contribute to a conversation.

Yes ma'am/sir. That is exactly what I am hoping you will do. At the very least, it will force you to augment and improve your computer/programming skills. Not a bad thing to acquire these days! Even for retirees!

Well, there are still people out there who roll their own cigarettes.

Individuals have to decide for themselves whether its worth it, and I think for most the answer was no. Certainly after trying it myself for a while I decided I would rather be flying than messing under the hood, especially after Orbx began making regional scenery.

At one point I had downloaded orthos for pretty much the entire united states, and Jcomm and I had a pinned thread in this subforum of Xp tips and tricks as well as downloads....

But I think it was a bit too labor intensive for many, in the end.

No Sir I wont. And the last thing I would want is to bore myself with any programming skills. I pay others to do that. Poor souls.
