I'm not speaking for Austin or the Laminar team, but from a developer perspective, X-Plane is not trying to compete with MSFS. Austin even acknowledged how beautiful MSFS looks. There's no denying that.

And yet in the video there are OrbX people present. I assume this is because LR regard OrbX as the solution for people to have realistic scenery to fly over. And OrbX are once again expecting that people will be prepared to fork out hundreds and hundreds of pound for all the little postage stamp ortho areas of the world on offer not to mention the cost of the extra storage required. We shall see how well this turns out. My own view is that now, in 2022, photorealistic scenery covering the whole world should be the default for any simulator.

Oh yeah, and by this definition, FSX by itself is the literal pig.

Do you huff and puff all over the DCS forums as well? They are desperately in need of your high standards!

GUI facelift (which is waaay better than what Asobo has created.

Well... If we're already down to claiming that XPs UI is better, then there really can't be much else left to brag about 😅🤠

You mean the PMDG 737 that does not even exhibit the basic roll-yaw coupling like the real aircraft (and the default XP 737) does?

Oh my god, basically unflyable 😅 Also I think it has been fixed last update.

I do not use DCS. But if I did then yes, I would expect it to have high standards.

I was rather hoping that there may be some loophole left open in the XP12 code to allow a clever modder to make an app which would inject, say, streamed Google orthos on the fly. However the presence of OrbX in the video make it clear that this will not be the case.

No offense, as much as I enjoy MSFS, the UI and entire UX experience is garbage. Compared to that, having a fast, clean UI is a good selling point.

@jarmstro Im surprised you havnt offered you expertise, to Laminar, im sure they would all enjoy working to your high standards, Than XP12 we might get in 2030. and people would still complain. My standards are reasonable, not ridiculous.

So, wow factor? 3D water will be better in XP12. Trees will be better. Lighting model and material textures will be better. Flight model will be further better. Weather will be par if not better (runway conditions etc.)....I guess we're missing multiplayer? Xbox users and youtubers rejoice! You have found your princess!

Those are an awful lot of very firm positive declarations, that I have not seen backed up by the videos released so far. I guess we will eventually see!

In fact, it's a bit disturbing that you describe M$ to be some sort of underdog executing a 'full court press' to surprise everyone and fend off an otherwise lopsided victory! Worst case scenario is Austin has to tell a few employees to find work elsewhere. Warm fuzzies all around, eh?

You were the one who corrected me, and talked about loss of the market and Ms returning like a snake in the grass or something to that effect.

As to my mention of a full court press, I'm not sure how that could be objectionable, rather than a simple statement considering the weekly updates from the developer, all of the promotional videos, the commercial Partnerships, the equipment giveaways to YouTube influencers, the Avalanche of free stuff, the support for third parties like flybywire, Etc.

I don't think this hobby has ever seen anything like it, certainly not on such a scale, and considering the lukewarm in comparison effort both commercially and technically behind Microsoft Flight, and even dovetail Sim, again, I don't think a term like full court press is an unreasonable or objectionable description of what has happened.

It changes the landscape in which other Sims must make their mark.

A lot of interested parties like myself, who are considering a purchase, simply Wonder exactly what moves laminar can and will take to compete.

Let me tell you that IMHO your standards are rather low and I suppose if LR had said that no improvements to XP11 were possible for technical reasons, you'd be defending that statement just like you're defending everything LR says right now.

Plausible world, its all anyone can do, So many angry people, want pretty graphics. I guess Austin should ditch the decent flight model and giver every one a canvas they can paint to there liking. There is plenty of space for the perfect people to develop the perfect sim I just seem them complaining and doing nothing.. Will you give it a go, Im sure lots of people will complain about yours not being perfect and standard not high enough. This has nothing to do with XP12 and all to do with peoples  pride. It doesnt matter what Austin does it will never be  good enough, ever and people will just keep complaining.

So ... the attitude of some people is basically: "What matters most for a flight sim? Eye candy, then eye candy, and finally eye candy. Oh, ... did I mention eye candy? Simulation isn't really needed for a simulator, it only detracts from the eye candy. Apart from that, the standards of the average home/MSFS user are much higher than the ones of RW pilots, RW aerospace engineers, RW aviation companies, so XP will fail ...".

We have heard that since decades ...

BTW ... Aerowinx 747-400 Precision Simulator hasn't eye candy at all, still it's a fantastic simulator.

However, there's nothing wrong with eye candy, but a simulator is a simulator is a simulator. Period. Eye candy is mostly for the people who want to fly over their house to see it once from the air and then their purpose in life is fulfilled 🙃.

Austin has made it clear, that to make the eye candy too big, will make downloads and distribution difficult. Not everyone has 2gb download speeds, some still have limited data. That he has left to scenery developers. Why are you not developing, its possible you said it yourself. Ill be pleased with what ever I get, and standards are just someones opinion, and we all have different opinions.
