August 12, 20223 yr Yesterday, Aug 10, American Airlines took delivery of a brand-new 787 becoming the first airline, in 15 months, to get one of these aircraft from Boeing since the deliveries were halted last year because of production and manufacturing issues. “The aircraft, with U.S. Registration No. N880BJ, was delivered from Charleston, South Carolina, and is expected to enter commercial service in the coming weeks”. The aircraft, received by American Airlines, was a 787-8 Dreamliner (my namesake, hence of special interest to yours truly...here...🙂...). American Airlines currently (already) has 24 of the Boeing 787-8 type in service, excluding yesterday's delivery. It also has 22 of the (stretched) Boeing 787-9 in its fleet. The 787-8 (N880BJ) departed "CHS" (CHARLESTON, SC) at 3:54pm (local time) and landed at "VCV" (VICTORVILLE, CA) at 5:00pm (local time), covering 2,176 miles in 4h 6m of total travel time. The FlightAware profile shows a cruise altitude of 40,000 ft. [Note: Boeing South Carolina is an airplane assembly facility built by Boeing in North Charleston, South Carolina. Located on the grounds of the joint-use Charleston Air Force Base and Charleston International Airport, the site is the Final assembly and delivery point for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner...] Please find below a set of pictures (also) of an American Airlines 787-8, symbolically lifting off KCHS (Charleston Air Force Base/International Airport), Rwy 21, and then banking right and climbing westward, see MAP and [VC] shots, to a (virtual) cruise altitude of 40,000 ft (under full LNAV/VNAV guidance). Please note that my (virtual) AA 788 has a Reg. of (N800AN) but not (N880BJ), except for which it's identical to the a/c AA just received, including the livery and the GEnx engines, that you see in the images below. The flightplan shown in the MAP shot, below, is same as the one uploaded into the FMS of this 787 SIM. The PROG page of FMS showed my route distance as ~1870 nms (~2,151 miles, close enough to the ~2,176 miles of the RW flight yesterday). My pictures (see the HUD and Glareshield screenshots) terminate on reaching the (pre-set) Cruise Altitude of 40,000 ft, which the a/c accomplished without any issue...🙂...settling to a steady Mach speed no. of 0.847 (the advertised 787 cruise speed is Mach 0.85)...[BTW, in recollections of all my RW long-haul (pax) flights, the only time I recall the a/c reaching 40,000 ft was in an Airbus A330...if my memory serves me right...of course, flying (RW) at 40,000 ft above the Atlantic, is of quite a different feeling from the (virtual) 40,000 ft cruise, here, in my (glorified) make-believe flight...🙂...] Anyway, thanks for viewing and hope you enjoy...!! Good flying...!

August 12, 20223 yr Thanks for the story and shots. Why would a delivery flight go to the desert rather than an AA hub like DFW? Mark CYYZ
August 12, 20223 yr Author johnb, pmplayer, and Mark: Thanks for the comments and interest...Appreciated...!! [Mark: On report, several 787s have been recently taking "short" test flights e.g., for AA and BA, but this one (N880BJ) seems to be first one officially delivered to the operator this week (AA planning to take 9 787s in 2022). N880BJ's very first flight (AA9824) under Airline Code (AA/AAL) was the one I've indicated in the post and attempted to simulate. This a/c is scheduled to enter service in the coming weeks, but such a long and high first flight could be this operator's own proving flight for such an extra-long-haul plane, on the way to final destination...just a thought... Meanwhile, I'll look a bit more and watch the progress...I'm also interested in the BA 787 been spotted by enthusiasts and being readied for delivery. Thanks again...!!]

Quality Wings? Good to hear from you, here, Vic...! I don't blame you for wanting a 787...🙂...and glad this set rekindled a bit of sentiments...Yes, you're correct, this is QW...those guys have created products that are, I think, just right in terms of complexity and fun quotients...to suit most of us virtual simmers... (I just hope they do more...) ...
