Does anyone know of a source for airstrip charts for PNG?

Well, I did a couple of flights there over the years since FSX 😉 so here are some links

a VFR map

 and

Some charts

This is only for PNG but MSFS offers a good cover of West Papua (Indonesia) too (except Wanema !)

Hope it helps !

This sort of area interests me rather more challenging than the uk.

I have the  Just flight Piper Arrow and the Warrier and on Friday picked up the  Milviz 310.   Are these suitable for these type of airstrips in real life  ( Especially the 310) ?

Thanks

you have all kind of airfields in both Papua and some accommodate a 310 without a problem. Now, a sloped mud strip in the hills requires a low speed stalling bird and I fly a Porter there.

In P3D I also flew the AN-2, the A2A C182 and the Comanche.

A fantastic place both in real life and in the sim with some of the nicest people you will find anywhere.

Because of the isolation, shortwave radio remains a used communications tool. PNG can be heard in the very early mornings on the tropical bands which are way below the frequency of normal shortwave radio broadcast bands.

PNG does sound like a happy society that cares not a fig about how much richer other people far away may be. Once in a while it's in a sort of simplistic English, but perfectly understandable. In one small isolated region, there's a sub language that in writing has our letters but they only use I think 13 letters.

ITU symbol for PNG broadcasts is of course PNG and frequencies hover just above 3000 kilocycles. To hear these Asian (e.g. North Korea)  radio waves, it helps to be on the West Coast of America. It's like a light coming over the water.

PNG is one of those nations divded by langage,  It is a strongly tribal county with very big differences between the groups with about 200 distinct languages.  The Papua area has an english language based Pigin called Motu which can help communications.  My job 60 years Ago was installing mostlly hi frequency based telecommunications  though there was some vhf and a little Tropo scatter.  I was there before the country gained independence which sadly partly due to the strong tribal culture which is sad as this  has led to a degree of corruption which means the countries wealth and resources do not reach everyone.  Flying then and now was an interesting experience.  I was a member of the Flying club based at Jacksons, the main International airport in Port Moresby.  There used to be a metal matting ex wartime runway on the Northeast side of the main runway which scared hell out of me with the noise when I was sidestepped to it once.  PNG is a place which seems to have generated strong memories in those who were fortunate enough to have lived there then.

I'd probably put this a different way and say it's mostly divided by geography, with the language divide being in turn an outcome of that. The reason bush flying is so important to PNG --  very rugged terrain with few or no land or water connections between populated areas -- is also how you have so many tribes and languages within a (relatively) small geographic space.

It makes for a fascinating dynamic, but also has some tragic results. Those same divisions have unfortunately facilitated extraordinarily high levels of violence for many centuries (maybe millennia).
