efb that can choose airport charts on the fly automatically?

Featured Replies

Still kinda new to the efb/charting side of things but, I've been evaluating some efb options, such as fskneeboard and sky4sim.  Both require manually downloading airport charts before hand (which can get tedious as there are quite a few for any given airport).  I also will use these in VR, so that ability is a must.

Is there a paid or free solution out there (not subscription based), that has a plugin that would allow for on the fly automatic viewing of charts (without downloading them first before hand)?

Thanks in advance for suggestions

I have used Avliasoft EFB for years and can't fly without it.

Ah nice ok, though it looks like it needs some sort of server installed?

The server comes with it. One click starts the server which I just leave running most of the time, everything else is on the client.

Ditto. The server software installs on the same machine, unless you want to network it.

Ok ill check that one out, is the paid over the top alternative to all this navigraph?  Does that work in VR and have as many features as these other ones?

Avilasoft is paid as well. Navigraph is probably your best bet for what you're trying to achieve, but of course it's a subscription. Why don't you try it for a month or two and see if you like it? That's what I did, and I found that Navigraph really is that good, and I don't mind paying the subscription.

If you fly in the US, airnav.com has charts and it's free.  However, it's not a plugin, it's browser-based.  I don't know of something applicable outside the US.

Yeah ill give that a try.. i thought the demo would work to show how it works in the sim, but it doesnt appear to.. ultimately its the best app that also integrates in VR well, without using virtual desktop.

Does navigraph have an in sim tool bar button /pop up overlay ?

On Aivlasoft EFB with msfs, i ran the server, installed the client.. but in the sim im not seeing a ribbon plugin to bring up any data from inside the sim (ala VR), maybe im missing something there.

Not to brag, but I love in the G550 how the charts automatically popup once I load my location in the FMS. It also automatically pops up on the MAP display 15 seconds after touch down. It's great for taxi at unfamiliar airports because it shows your position on the charts for approach and taxi. But, I wanted to add that I use navigraph for sim'n and it works perfect!

Yes it does, you have to install it from their installer and then it shows up as a button on the toolbar. It’s a very slick implementation

Did you program the server to read both the sim and your nav data, ?  Just a couple of clicks....

It appears it's not 26 per year but more like 75 but I still may try for a month
