MSFS freezes during load with EDGE Browser and HW Accel

Featured Replies

Hello,

maybe one of you have a similar issue and probably a solution:

I have just EDGE browser and this forever.

It started some weeks ago (maybe with SU10 release, but it was not the case with Su10 versions before 1.27.21.0) that MSFS freezes during loading.

I tried a lot but finally I could nail it down, that this just happens when I have hardware acceleration enabled in EDGE browser.

So, does anyone else see this also, or does anyone have a solution for this?

thx

I have hardware acceleration enabeled in Edge (my default browser) and MSFS starts normally.

Kind regards, Michael

Interesting that you bring that question.

Strangely, not  due to MFS but rather to another ( work ) application I use in my desktop, I had to disable EDGE HW Acceleration because it impacted seriously on that particular app, which used JavaScript in some of it's components.

I can't tell if it's the same with MFS because from there on I only use EDGE with no HW acceleration.

Is MFS using Edge browser in some way?   My sim starts up an doesn't use the browser at all, or at least I do not think it's using the browser.

I really don't guess.

EDGE processes start with Windows, although you can try to prevent that from happening during startup, but I really don't know if in some way an application like MFS can make use of those processes.

Maybe in your case edge hw acceleration does something to your GPU that hinders MSFS. Seems very unlikely though. Solution: Turn off edge hw accel. I guess you will see it has nothing to with it if you turn it off for longer.

Thanks o a hint from a user in the official forum, th issue could be tied down, when "FAST" is selected in the Nvidia Control Panel for vertical sync. Changed this to adaptive and it works. Edge HW acceleration is enabled and sim loads as it should.

Thx for the feedback!

I never use VSync through NCP - only ingame - so I never encountered that problem.

In XP12 I do throttle the GPU though, set VSync through the game and max 32 fps through NCP.

I have had very rare lock up's on sim loading a flight so I have now disabled Hardware Acceleration in Edge. I will see if the issue is now gone but it won't be conclusive as it might only happen 1 out 50-100 starts anyway. Hardware Acceleration in Edge means that graphics work is transferred to the GPU (i.e. moved off the CPU). I doubt it has any measurable effect on more modern multi-core CPU's, unless perhaps you are working with intensive web app's such as online image editors.

Have you seen my later post?

Do you have nvidia vsync "fast" enabled?

No, not me. I am using the in-sim V-Sync.
