MSFS crashing since 3 gb update.

Featured Replies

Ever since the 3 gb update (11 beta I think) MSFS loads halfway through and crashes to desktop each time. Any suggestions?

Edit: I tried renaming the community folder to take that out of the equation and it's still crashing.

If that folder in your 'Official' folder, then MSFS may not load. That it how it is for me. (The Microsoft/Carenado C195 buisnessliner).

I have tons of other folders in Official (doesn't everybody). But none of the other content  folders will prevent MSFS from loading (on my computer).

5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB  PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.

Other folders worth also moving to a safe place for trial (you might want to put them back) is the G1000 folder, fs-base-nav folder, any other folder that says 'Carenado'.

On mine it's Official/Steam/ which is the parent folder to all these  folders.

Thanks I'll try that. I don't have the C195 but I have many other Carenado I can try moving.

When you manually remove a folder from Official, sometimes a file called: .fscontent is created. It lists the folders you removed and MSFS will put them all back automatically the next time MSFS boots up. So you may have to move .fscontent file too.

Here's a thread, other people have other planes that prevent MSFS loading past the Canada screen:

---------------------

You can almost always get into MSFS in safe mode. There is a way to force msfs into safe mode by putting this file in a certain location: running.lock

If the sim crashes or is not exited properly by the menus, then msfs creates that file running.lock and drops it somewhere on your computer. When MSFS boots up next time, it looks for running.loci. If it's there, then MSFS will go into the safe mode and then it probably will boot up and not CTD.

The problem is where does MSFS put running.lock ? It depends on if you have a steam version and if your  your Community and  Official folders are located in the default location:

Since it seems to be different content that causes CTD for different people, maybe it has to do with in what order the sim reads the content folders. In other words it might make a content folder fine if you put a Z or an AA in front of the name.

Please, specifiy you are talking about a SU11 BETA update in the title.

Missing the PMDG DC6 in MSFS 2024 (she's here, but...).

I have had this since day 1 of Beta 11, Safe mode and the sim loads fine. If i put any Caranado aircraft in the Official> One Folder i get a CTD everytime without fail at the Canada splash screen on load,. I have tried countless times with individual Caranado aircraft files from the Market Place with the same result.

So for now they are all removed. It's strange how there are so many differences between individual set up's, Yet to have any form of reply from MS on this issue.

AMD Ryzen 7 5800x3d, MSI X570 Pro, 32 gb DDR4 3600 ram, Gigabyte 6800 16gb GPU, 1x 2tb Samsung  NvMe , 1x 2tb Sabrent NvME, 1x Crucial 4tb Nvme M2 Drive

Really weird thing... Carenado and MS working fine for me. I'm still digging through the comm folder. For me the JF Arrows and Milviz stuff leading to instant CTD on sim load. Don't think its order related but as it seems to be very user specific, hard to tell.

Cheers

T.

I'm finding the issue isn't so much with specific add-ons but with combinations of add-ons which makes it almost impossible to nail down the underlying problem without crash logs from the sim itself

Have you tried the sim opting out of the Beta?
