VR headset HP Reverb G2 half price sale

Recommended Posts

The FS2020 friendly HP Reverb G2 is on sale for the 50% off price of $299 USD on HP's Black Friday sale page: HP Reverb G2 Virtual Reality Headset

I appologize for posting this in the general forum but I thought that, at this price,  non-VR users might want to take the plunge.spacer.png

That is direct from HP. 30 day return. Free shipping. HP pays postage back if returned. No hassle. I returned one a year ago (it was the old type with the old cord, did not work). I purchased again 2 months ago (the new type, works perfectly). Direct from HP is a good place to buy, no risk.

Good question. Or, possibly a discontiuance sale.   At $299 USD with free shipping and good FS2020 reviews, though, I figured that it is a cheap way to try VR.

I bought it - still got my 1080 ti but I couldn't say no at that price.  If MSFS doesn't look okay then it will be worthwhile in DCS.

no it doesn't - it looks incredibly real. a whole new world. you'll want a new GPU with that though ... but you know that already.

Good call at that price, you won't be sorry.  Be patient getting your G2 dialed in, at first its visuals seem greatly lacking compared to 2D, but dang, you are now IN the cockpit.  You'll have to dial back all of your settings, and definitely become friends with the OpenXR Toolkit's scale, sharpen and other features.  Hope your muscle memory is good using your controllers and expect about 30 fps with your 1080 ti.  Using modest settings I get a solid 45 fps in my G2 with a 3080 ti, zero regrets here.  Just beware like it was with TIR, once you've acclimated to VR, there is no going back to 2D (though some can't acclimate).

Thanks Rod.  Yeah I realize I'll have to totally dial down my settings.  I probably won't switch to all VR yet...  realistically I will need a better GPU to enjoy it.  But I do plan on using it for low and slow (and maybe some fast DCS stuff).

Oh, you are in for a treat!  P51 gunnery in VR is amazing.  You can actually track in the bullets' trajectories.  That was the hook that made VR a 'must have' for me, though with IL-2.

BTW, the #1 reason I got a 3080 ti was for VR. The guy that got me hooked on VR is installing a 4080 today...just to let you know how much VR can warp your judgement. 😉

Oh yeah - I did try DCS a few years ago with an Oculus Rift and it was decent but had a lot of that screen door effect.  I understand the G2 isn't a Varjo Aero but hopefully it's not too bad.

I'd be curious to know what your friend started with and how the change to the 4080 affects the VR experience....  I'm grumpy about the 4080 prices but if I could say, triple my 2D fps, it probably would be worth it in VR to go from my 1080 Ti to the 4080.
