December 12, 20223 yr I have just assembled the MFG rudder pedals… i took things apart to do the damper mod going down the center. Im wondering a few things: When i take my feet off the pedals (using cessna pedals), they dont quite return to center even at lower damper settings… i’ve tried playing with the left side spring adjustments too. Its visible in the sim, you can see the rudder is slightly off centered. (mechanically off center) Is this normal real world behavior, guessing not especially when flying… whats the physical fix or if none, should i just set a deadzone in the mfg software of 80% or should i set it in MSFS, pros and cons of doing in the mfg software vs msfs? Wondering too what spring setting 1 2 or 3 for the brakes everyone is using for ga, i left it at default and have the pedals slightly tilted back. Or did i screw something up when assembling.. secondarily, is this normal real rudder action (thinking not unless on the ground). Would just running the calibration auto set a dead zone? December 13, 20223 yr Author Just a slight update, I may have goofed or not, unsure, but I thought that the front bolt of the damper was a bit loose, so I tried snugging it, I thought not that far and it has snapped, the plastic piece. Now i have to hope i can get that piece replaced. However, in doing so I’ve come to realize now they snap back just fine, I guess even a 6 out of 24 on the damper was too much to auto recenter. December 13, 20223 yr When you get the spare part check all the other pivot points, if you have also over tightened any of them and they are binding it will hinder centering.
December 13, 20223 yr I was a bit disappointed with the damper. I had the same issue but setting it to its lowest setting and the default spring a bit tighter cured that. If it hadn't, I would probably have removed it again. IMO, the default pedals are great and don't need enhancement. I also tried the Cessna footrests but the default footrests suited me better. They might be more realistic but less comfortable, at least when combined with an office chair. Perhaps if the pedals are mounted in a gaming/sim rig it is different. Yeah I agree i think, having now used them without it attached, to me it feels more natural for in the air flight, at least i think it does, been too long since i took a few flying lessons to recall though Is it absolutely necessary to use the MFG software to calibrate the pedals though? Is a dead zone still useful to a degree? I would suggest the following, based on the experience I had with MFG (now using TPR). Only once I used MFG software to recalibrate after an issue. I use first windows to calibrate my devices and then MSFS calibration menu. IMHO msfs has the best adjustments and calibration features, you can adjust by curve sensitivities (not realistic, the airplane controls inputs and responses are "linear") or neutral settings together with reactivity. Regarding the dead zone (again, the real airplane doesn't have dead zones) but it could be an issue in the sim world where you can have noise or worn pots and it will be necessary at a certain point to use it. Check first and see if you notice any spikes that might require using a small dead zone. 747 Captain for the last 39 years, and still learning.

I have my damper at two clicks, and here's a photo showing my spring tension in relation to the front adjustment knob. This goes back to center with no issue, and the damper makes it buttery smooth. FWIW, I think the damper is a game changer with the feel of the pedals. ...and I can see that I need to do some dusting...😄
December 13, 20223 yr I thought the damper mod was more suited for combat and space sims, I don't use it and have no problems what so ever with my MFG, I use the combat (universal) pedals and they are very comfortable to use.
