X-Plane 12 Performance Issues

gpu time has nothing todo with scenery loading.

probably try turning cloud quality down?

CPU and GPU are both really high (.03), so isn't it scenery related?

I got 80 fps with the same cloud settings without much scenery

i think LR need a totally new approach with scenery loading/display

same cloud settings but different clouds.

plus land has all those trees and roads and buildings (even though you cant see them through the clouds, the sim cant know that before hand, clouds have lots of seethrough parts)

Its not surprising you get the best framerates when the sim has virtually nothing to do either.

e.g. real weather on over London is always going to be heavier than clear skies in the middle of the atlantic.

EDIT: yep, try turning cloud quality down. I cant manage max on my 3070 in all circumstances.

yeh guess so thanks, hope it is better optimised in future versions tho. Not London even! This was over Germany which is always a problem, and Netherlands.

but doesn't a  clever sim know your height and can reduce ground features accordingly?

AMD 7800X3D, Windows 11, Gigabyte X670 AORUS Elite AX Motherboard, 64GB DDR5 G.SKILL Trident Z5 NEO RGB (AMD Expo), RTX 4090,  Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 2 TB PCIe 4.0, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 1 TB PCIe 4.0, 4K resolution 50" TV @60Hz, VR: Pimax Crystal Light + HP Reverb G2 @ 90 Hz, Honeycomb Bravo Throttle Quadrant, be quiet 1000W PSU, Noctua NH-U12S chromax.black air cooler.

60-130 fps. no CPU overclocking.

very nice.

now that would be a good idea 😂

it does, you can zoom in to see them fade in, also control them with render distance.

all those graphics sliders serve a purpose, much more so than previous XP versions, and way more than other games/applications.

I'm not convinced with the sliders as i still get poor fps at 35,000. Must be the dsf loading which is inefficient. Anyway the way its doing it at the moment needs an overhaul!

the least likely cause of 100 other causes because?

You can check also that with the microprofiler, dsf prep time iirc.

80fps with no scenery, 30fps with scenery, high end machine, sliders are not maxed

i'll check the microprofiler, thanks

XP dsfs are never more than a few MB, they take fractions of a second to load and do so on a different cpu thread than the rendering.

displaying the scenery is a different story, but Ive never seen that cause high gpu times. gpu time is veg and clouds.

perfect example of wrong priorities. they should have built and optimized Germany only AFTER x-plane was finished. Like they did with US cities, all rectangular, north-south-east-west bound roads. so precise you can re-align your compass over country roads. that's what I'd call tick-tock.

appreciate all your knowledge and help btw, i know you really support XP so i'm sure things will sort themselves out in future releases. The sim is getting really good so don't want poor performance for strange reasons getting in the way of its progress.

you sure meant like your counter strike application.
