Clone C / FS202 drive to another larger drive

Featured Replies

My FS2020 drive (boot drive) needs more space for FS2020.

Can I Clone C to larger F drive and remove FS2020 from C drive? Then run FS2020 from larger F drive. If so what steps do I need to do this. Other than change the FSCFG file on the F drive to point to F.

Thanks to all who replay.

Easiest would be just to move the folder containing Community and Official to another drive. Those folders contain the bulk of the program. Then start MSFS and point it to the new directory when it asks for the download directory. It will only check if everything is there and start normally. That's it.

Do you have the Steam or MS Store version?  With Steam, you can just define a new location and it will all be moved over for you.

I used the free version of Macrium Reflect to clone my MSFS drive when I moved it from a 1TB to a 2TB drive.

I just the did the same thing. I was running out of space on my only SSD, and bought a second 2TB one. I moved the Community and Official folders to the new drive, and updated the paths when loading up MSFS the next time (I also had to manually update my community folder path in a bunch of apps, Orbx, Contrail, FBW installer etc the next time I ran them).

I didn't use any fancy software to move the folders (I just copied them from the old drive to the new drive) and once I saw everything worked, I deleted the originals from the C drive.

Thanks to all who replied.

This worked.

Used the move fs2020 package from C to F.

Changed the FS config on C to point to F.

Ran FS2020 as usual. It started to reinstall FS2020 on F. (Long time)

Started FS2020 as usual. Loaded fine. Twenty some content did not install. Took care of that with Content Manager.

It looks like this process also removed FS2020 from my C drive. Picked up 554GB free on C.

There may be other ways to accomplish this, This worked for me.
