How to install Store deluxe version on different Drive?

Featured Replies

So I need to install it on a dedicated (D) drive (Microsoft Store version).

I have to create a folder (MSFS) for it to install into on the D drive, but then the update goes to C/User/User...........

Should I leave it be, or move the update somehow (?) to my D folder?

Thanks for any insight in advance.

I don't think "moving" in like copying is an option for MSFS.
I guess you need to uninstall and re-install in the place you want it to be for everything to work correctly.
You get an option to change the install path when you run the installer.

You can move the bulk of the installation (the "community" and "official" folder. You'll have to edit a config file to point it to the new location but even if you don't I expect MSFS to ask for the location if you haven't done that and it can't find its original location.

To move the core it's better to reinstall MSFS. You can keep the community and official folder though so it only needs to download 1-2 GB's or so.

Both the Official and Community folders are installed on the alternate disk, while the core files and app data remain on 😄

As mentioned by others bulk of the filoes can be installed into a separate drive(mine is on E:) However, the core remains in C drive and I don't think there's a way to move it. It takes about 1.1 GB of space so it's not a biggie for me. Besides I hate when Windows creates additional folders in an other drive to install files such as Program Files, Microsoft Programs etc. It makes the drive very messy with these additional folders. I like to keep it clean.

I also have addon linker that links all my scenery and 3rd part aircraft that I keep on my D drive. This helps to keep the sim drive clean and smaller in size.

I did this a couple of months ago when I bought a New M2 SSD drive. I copied and pasted most everything from the C drive to the new drive, and made a change in the config file I think. Took about 1/2 hour total and worked like a charm. I tried searching for the thread, but couldn't find it. Bert Pieke knows how to do it.

There is absolutely no need to copy and paste anything.

Just use the inbuilt move function of windows. Just go into your Apps tab, find the flight simulator, choose move. Done.

John, that is it, thanks.

Farlis, great to know, but sadly the option is "greyed out", and I cannot get it to work.

I have more than enough space on C drive, but have a dedicated one each for P3D, and MSFS, and so would prefer to have it on D drive.

The core can stay on C, but the rest I would prefer to relocate to D.

I will move the Community and Official folders over and edit config file for now.

I now know where to look for my next uninstall reinstall process.

Thank you all for your help and advice.

I have the core files on my 'happy' drive too...

5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB  PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.

While I don't doubt that folks have figured how to install the launcher files elsewhere than the system disk, the instructions do state

To avoid issues down the line, we recommend keeping the launcher on the drive set by default with all your other Windows 10 apps and Steam games.

One can take that for what it's worth. This forum has been the home of many discussions concerning failed updates, etc., so you pays your money and you takes your chances.
