March 1, 20233 yr I’ve been away from flight simming for quite some months due to no time etc. Decided to fire up MSFS last night, and had to do the obligatory 48GB’s worth of updating, plus regional updates. I also updated OpenXR while I was at it, as I’m using a G2. Upon firing up the game, firstly, it looked horrendous, especially the trees which looked sort of waxy, and unable to decide if they were going to be 3D or not. Very hard on the eyes. But, worse than that, I was fluctuating between 25-29 fps. Less than half of that which I had enjoyed previously. Even after dialling the settings way back it still ran like garbage. I have a fairly decent system, 5950X and a 3090, fast ram, SSD etc. I was only flying a microlight, from a pokey little backwater airfield, so no big ask of the software. What’s happened? Has everyone experienced a downgrade, or is it something system specific? Just as a comparison, I then fired up DCS and Elite Dangerous, and both performedabsolutely gloriously. Silky smooth, and settings close to maxed out. So I know there’s nothing wrong with my setup per se. Definitely something that Asobo have dropped into the mix over the last months. 5950X, RTX3090, 32GB@3600, Samsung Evo NVME 1TB, Warthog HOTAS, MFG Crosswinds, Reverb G2.
March 1, 20233 yr I've not seen any degradation like that in recent months personally with my daughter & G2, sometimes a break away from the game can play tricks on the mind as to what it was once like and/or something on your PC is the cause, not necessarily the Sim. Last time there was a significant reduction in quality was SU5. Pico Neo3 Link VR - Windows 11 64bit, Gigabyte Z590 Aorus Elite Mobo, i7-10700KF CPU, Gigabyte RX 9070 XT OC 16gb (AMD GPU), 32gig Corsair 3600mhz RAM, SSD x2 + M.2 SSD 1tb x1 Saitek X45 HOTAS - Saitek Pro Rudder Pedals - Logitech Flight Yoke - Homemade 3 Button & 8-directional Joystick Box, SNES Controller (used as a Button Box - Additional USB Numpad (used as a Button Box)
March 1, 20233 yr Author I know what you are saying, but my fps has more than halved, so definitely not rose tinted glasses. 5950X, RTX3090, 32GB@3600, Samsung Evo NVME 1TB, Warthog HOTAS, MFG Crosswinds, Reverb G2.

A mod update could affect FPS, old/new GPU drivers etc etc. If everyone had the same fps issues then there'd be a lot more posts on it, best I can advise is remove all mods and try vanilla. March 1, 20233 yr Author I don’t have any mods in place, although updating the nVidia driver is a good shout. I’d forgotten about that. 5950X, RTX3090, 32GB@3600, Samsung Evo NVME 1TB, Warthog HOTAS, MFG Crosswinds, Reverb G2.
March 2, 20233 yr Author After updating the gfx driver, I had another bash yesterday. A moderate increase in fps, but still nowhere near as good as times gone by. But, much worse than that, is that both trees and water are literally hurting my eyes. It’s almost like the effect you get when reversing a pair of 3D glasses whilst watching a movie, and the image becomes inverted. I’ve messed around with a whole plethora of settings but just cannot alleviate the problem. Annoying, because it was all working sublimely before I brought the sim up to date. I’ll have another bash today which will probably be another exercise in futility. Then it’ll be off to DCS for a few months before I can face another round of hoop jumping. The only saving grace is that I had enough common sense to test the sim directly after updating before I splurged out on a few aircraft I had my eyes on. They can well and truly stay in the basket now. Edited March 2, 20233 yr by Bilbosmeggins 5950X, RTX3090, 32GB@3600, Samsung Evo NVME 1TB, Warthog HOTAS, MFG Crosswinds, Reverb G2.
March 2, 20233 yr I recently updated my computer hardware, and am happy to find that for the first time ever, I am almost totally happy with MSFS and VR. I am now able to set max resolution into my oculus software, and the consequent jump in clarity is eye-opening, while the framerate is better than ever. We are all connected..... March 2, 20233 yr Author I’m glad you’ve got it running well. Always nice when things perform as intended 🙂 Think I’m just unlucky, and have a gremlin lurking in the system somewhere. 5950X, RTX3090, 32GB@3600, Samsung Evo NVME 1TB, Warthog HOTAS, MFG Crosswinds, Reverb G2.

Sometimes updates change/reset display settings that you had in place. Maybe skim through the display settings for something looking odd? I did sift through the settings, as I’ve been a victim of having them screwed up in the past. Everything was as I left them. And I’ve since tinkered to little or no avail. I appreciate the suggestion though 🙂 5950X, RTX3090, 32GB@3600, Samsung Evo NVME 1TB, Warthog HOTAS, MFG Crosswinds, Reverb G2.
March 12, 20233 yr Have you tried getting rid of OpenXr and seeing what happens? Going back to default everything, and working your way back up might help you locate problem areas. Been too busy having fun in DCS, which is now working fantastically in VR. Even more so now they have implemented multi-threading. I’ll have a knock at removing OpenXR as soon as I can summon up sufficient stamina. I find it mentally draining, as it is such a frustrating affair at times. 5950X, RTX3090, 32GB@3600, Samsung Evo NVME 1TB, Warthog HOTAS, MFG Crosswinds, Reverb G2.

My headset is an Oculus Quest 2, and the jump in clarity is apparent while using the Link cable and in Wireless. I think one of the main contributors is also the fact that my computer motherboard is now Wi-Fi 6, which means some of the dropouts and inability to keep up the necessary speed that I was experiencing while using Wi-Fi 5 is now either alleviated or gone altogether. Other contributing factors might be my switch to a Nvidia 4070 and ddr5 RAM on a newer motherboard. We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... April 18, 20233 yr https://youtu.be/FkVfVDlrfgk Try this tip. Along with deleting the Nvidia shader files, also make sure you delete the rolling cache after each sim update. Also try with a clear community folder..... a stock aircraft and scenery . Let me know if it helps.
