So, should I go W11 or not

I'm still on win7 and my new PC parts are shipping now, I have this windows copy installed for 10 years and while I would happy to carry on, it's clear I just can't.

I can image I'll want use the new system for another 10 years, before get over-obsolete like now, I really hate not just switch system but even have to reinstall the same one. It seems win10 will EOS somewhere around 2025, So I'm thinking just go win11 to keep it afloat longer...

But if win12 will came next year, then win11 might not do that all better on this front anyway, and there is tons of reason I hate win11, force online account is the start (while it can and I certainly will evasive that).

For this reason Actually I more like my now EOS win7 than win10 on my laptop, so you can see why I don't want go more applized win11

So it actually came down to what's your prediction on win10 in like 5 years later? would it be as obsolete as win7 now and can't run many new stuff, or due to it's closer nature to win11 would have better time after support, or win11 will also be as obsolete as win10, or even sooner as it's a "service"?

BTW I once want wait for linux came to rescue, but that doesn't seems would work at least for now even for my XP11/12 add-on collection.

As you wrote, support for Windows 10 ends in 2025. You can still use it afterwards, but any future hard- or software may not be compatible with that Windows version.

If you want to use a new system for 10 years, you need to know that even Windows 11 will see its support end in 2031. If you hate W11 and are comfortable using W10, I would install W10 on the new system (the key from W7 should work) and wait until W12 comes out (next year or so), which will then be good for a long time to come.

I don't think I'll happy jump into w12 for the same reason I hate w11...I might jump into lunix as soon as it could support my simulator needs....actually I might just install one with this new build and see how far could it go...

I just cannot 'hate' any operating system.

Obviously, an older operating system is not optimized for modern & updated operating systems.

So, a new PC might have issues running an older operating system. It may be a problem finding drivers.

Waiting for the 'next best thing' is also a pointless exercise. It's a never ending search for the holy grail.

I'm using Windows 11 on a Ryzen 7 laptop, with 16GB ram & an SSD, & I'm finding that my sims are running a lot smoother than when I was using an older obsolete operating system.

MS seems to have established a pattern of every other OS is popular and works well.  Windows 95 was ok, but Windows 98 was good, Windows ME not so good, Windows XP good, Windows Vista not so good, Windows 7 good, Windows 8 not so good, Windows 10 good, Windows 11 not so good, so I'd guess Windows 12 will be good.  But, as they saying actually goes, the proof is in the eating of the pudding.  I would not be the first in line, let others be the open beta testers.

I got a striped off version of Win11 and 3 days in so far so good,

By use ExplorerPatcher I can move taskbar to the side of the 2nd monitor, that's one of the main reason I hesitate to switch beside all the spyware b***t.

The only problem I ran into so far is Fraps no longer works (OSD shown but screenshot are black).Fraps is not working on vulkan and DX12 anyway... but it was the only screenshot tool that can take proper shot (and show proper FPS) on main window of P3Dv4 and XP11 when multiple windows of them are undocked across different monitors....

Been using Windows 11 Pro since beta and have not really had any issues performance wise or other.  It's basically Windows 10 with some graphical and a few security changes.
