March 14, 20233 yr /\ Interesting find about order of monitor connection... but not repeatable is troubling. My primary interest in popping out a panel is for the Longitude touch screen that controls the G5000 that's on the middle console. I'd like to get that on my iPad. Since these panels are all apparently rendered using HTML, wouldn't it be nice if they could be rendered in a browser, either locally or on a remote networked device? I think this is basically how FBW has remotely enabled the MCDU on their A320.

March 14, 20233 yr I think I'm going to try Spacedesk to add my iPad as a monitor and then use Pop-out Manager. Praying the FPS hit is minimal. I'll report back when I get it going.

March 18, 20233 yr I'm amazed to see that this "popup to separate monitor cuts my FPS exactly in half" issue is still being discussed after all these years. Come on guys, a simple visit Google would have shown you that this issue (or rather non-issue) is due to how DirectX and multi-monitors and some FPS measure tools work. It has been discussed for about 15 years now (yes, seriously). It still shows up in the P3D forum and all other DirectX software every few weeks. Short summary: the fact that it shows exactly half the FPS when placing panels on a separate monitor does NOT mean that your FPS was cut in half. There is a technical explanation for this you can read about if you're interested. Of course this is not the same as saying that the performance is not affected by pop-up panels. It certainly is, but the "exactly half FPS" thing has nothing, absolutely nothing, to do with performance. Simply use a different FPS tool if it bothers you or just be aware that is is how things work.
March 18, 20233 yr Regarding FPS loss when having pop out windows you should also check if you have any external FPS limitier active (like RTSS). Those often cannot properly handle a 3D application with multiple Windows window instances. The ingame VSync limiter (33/50/100%) is fine. Limiting via nVidia driver and using G-Sync seems okay, too. Best to do check with unlimited FPS and without G-Sync etc. Windows 11 Pro - Ryzen 3 5900X - nVidia RTX 4090 - 32GB DDR4-3600 === Microsoft Flight Simulator

Something else that was pushed under the carpet. I use air manager on a separate PC to counter act some of this. How does this work ???? Cannot wrap my head around a 2nd PC working panels from MSFS running on my main PC ?? And would this work with a X Touch mini ??

July 31, 20232 yr So here’s my strange experience… I have a 4K OLED TV as my main display and a small 1080p touch screen I use for pop-outs. I have a 4090/5800x3D and run Frame Generation with DLAA. I’m popping out touch screen panels from the Longitude using Pop out manager from Flightsim.to to enable touch input. Afterburner/Rivatuners FPS display has difficulties so I can’t use it for assessing FPS. I use the Dev Mode FPS counter which shows frames sent to the GPU and my TV’s info panel to confirm G-sync rate is double that. With both Longitude touch panels popped out, FPS goes from a steady 55-57 to a more erratic FPS that fluctuates around 40-50. The dips are every two or three seconds. Now strangely, if I then close one pop out (leaving only one panel popped out) my peak FPS actually improves over no pop outs to around 63FPS with drops to around 40 every few seconds. So one observation is that pop outs are consuming some serious CPU cycles every few seconds. The other is that two pop outs is dragging my system down, but one doesn’t seem to be all that bad as it’s actually improving FPS as much as impacting it. Since I really only need both touch panels during startup from cold and dark and then one during flight, I can live with this. The ergonomic advantage of having the G5000 touch panel on an actual physical touch panel, cannot be overstated. It’s huge. Between my Alpha Yoke, Bravo throttle, Streamdeck (lights/electrical), X-Touch (AP), and Touch screen (G5000), I don’t need a mouse to interact with the aircraft at all. 😀

So, I'm upgrading to the 7800X3D with integrated GPU... and while it's not stellar, it should be more than capable of rendering a touch panel from the g5000 on a 1080p touch screen. I'm wondering if you've tested popping out panels to a display on the AMD GPU and compared the result to connecting the 2nd display to your NV GPU? My guess is that the bottleneck is likely the CPU in both cases which has to render the additional window and that neither GPU is going to stress over the actual display of it. But perhaps there is some nuance to MSFS and its pop-outs that makes one method clearly superior to the other? Interestingly, the Fenix apparently allows you to render the cockpit displays on a 2nd GPU and folks have found that using the AMD integrated GPU for that helps with overall performance. "The ergonomic advantage of having the G5000 touch panel on an actual physical touch panel, cannot be overstated. It’s huge. " totally agree, and I would do the same if I was flying in 2D. 1080p shouldn't really create a major load though, even for the AMD internal GPU. which touch screen monitor do you have? August 10, 20232 yr So I don’t know if it’s the new beta build, the latest NV driver, or both, but I tried a pop-out panel on my 2nd display last night and it didn’t seem to impact performance at all. Would be nice if someone else could confirm. ps. I also set G-Sync to both Full Screen and Windowed (vs Full Screen only) so maybe that was the difference? Popping out a panel on a G-sync display definitely seems to create some issues with G-Sync, but moving it to my 2nd display seems to resolve any issues. Edited August 10, 20232 yr by Virtual-Chris
