Renaming the Community folder?

Recommended Posts

I have recently installed MSFS for the first time, and as there's a Simupdate 12 coming on March 21, I know that MS recommend to "empty" the community folder before updating. But is it enough to rename the folder to ie "old" community" and then MS will create a new community folder, or do I have to move all files in it to another place on my SSD? Sorry if it'sbeen anwered before, but since it's the first time I have to deal with a Simupdate, I want to make sure I don't mess it up. I would prefer NOT to update since MSFS runs perfecty right now, but I know that's not possible unfortunately.

Just rename it. Afterwards, delete the newly created Community folder, and put your renamed folder back as Community.

It's never been needed just advised as it helps troubleshooting on the Devs side of things, so they can immediately rule out 3rd party mod issues interfering in the update process.

I have never renamed, moved, or emptied community folder, and never had an issue with an update.

I usually rename my community folder before an update, but have on occasions forgotten will no ill effect.  I also delete my rolling cache if I have been using one though neither are strictly necessary.

It takes 10 seconds to rename a folder and create another one for goodness sake, why woulkd you not do it? I always err on the side of caution.

Because it is a total waste of time. If you rename the folder, do the update, put everything back in the folder and find out you have a deflective add on, you are back where you started anyway,

Actually, no.  This is a troubleshooting step, only in case you experience problems after the update.

As stated above, this is unnecessary and you avoid screwing something up if you skip it. 🙂

Hi Bert:

Only files insise this folder, not the all path,... you are right, but i only delete files inside LocalCache files.

Sorry by my extended and not clearly explanation.

LocalCache files works as a cache that all of us know.

If you change files in community folder LocalCache replace new files for this start-up MSFS,

Thanks for share your experiences.

Cheers my friend
