If you rename the folder, do the update, put everything back in the folder and find out you have a deflective add on, you are back where you started anyway, I agree, and I could add we should not install addons that have bad reputation. We should not install hundreds of addons just in case we could need some of them. I also agree because if you use MSFS_addonLinker, you can so easily disable some or all your addons. Sorry by my extended and not clearly explanation. LocalCache files works as a cache that all of us know. If you change files in community folder LocalCache replace new files for this start-up MSFS, Thanks for share your experiences. Cheers my friend Your previous post and Bert's reply quoting your post have been removed. Unfortunately, Microsoft is using very confusing naming conventions in the MSFS installation tree. Things are not what they seem, and it is easy to make mistakes... There are Packages within Packages folders and Cache folders that are not caches.. be careful here.. 😉 Bert

But is it enough to rename the folder to ie "old" community" and then MS will create a new community folder, or do I have to move all files in it to another place on my SSD? Sorry if it'sbeen anwered before, but since it's the first time I have to deal with a Simupdate, I want to make sure I don't mess it up. I would prefer NOT to update since MSFS runs perfecty right now, but I know that's not possible unfortunately. There is absolutely NO NEED WHATSOEVER to do anything with the community folder during an update. You already HAVE a community folder. Why would you want to create a new one??? Yes. I have quite a lot of addons downloaded from flightsim.to, and to keep things somewhat organised I prefix addon folders with "eu", "na" to distinguish European and North American airports/sceneries, and then rename addon folders like "eu-uk-ap-egkk-gatwick" for a UK airport, "na-us-ak-ap-pafa-fairbanks" for a NA/Alaska airport, "eu-uk-sc-channel-islands" for a scenery for the Channel Islands, etc. Works fine with all addons I download and install from zip files and whatnot. I wish I could do the same with addons you buy and install from the developer's installer, but it is quite rare that the installer lets you chose a custom folder name. However, my OCD is not so severe, so I can live with that.

Why would you want to create a new one??? The OP is new to the sim, has noted a recommendation by Microsoft to empty the Community folder before an update, and was simply asking whether renaming would suffice. He is not asking whether he should create a new Community folder. People who've been using this sim for some time, and have experience of updates, know that you can get away without doing anything to the folder, but the OP has read the recommendation, and was asking how to go about it. 'Shouting' with capital letters, and adding multiple question marks, is not very helpful for a newcomer, is it. Surely not everybody was kung fu fighting. https://rationalwiki.org
March 18, 20233 yr Author Thank you for the support Paul K. You're absolutely right, as I mentioned It's the first time I will have to update the sim, so I wanted to be clear on how to go about it, without messing up the sim. If I don't have to do anything with the community folder, FINE, but it wouldn't be a big deal to rename it or move it, but nice to hear that it isn't nesecary.
