April 9, 20233 yr Since I am alone in the house now my daughter has insisted on my moving to an independent living facility here in Roswell. She has taken charge of selling my house and I will be moving next month sometime. It looks like a fairly nice place and while I hate moving from the house I have lived in for the past 30 years, without Betty to help and share the chores and cooking I need a place like that where I will have a one bedroom apartment and they will feed me 3 times a day. But I will have a kitchenette in case I want to cook something for myself. And I will probably meet new friends there more about my own age. But more importantly if I fall they have lanyards on the wall in every room I can crawl to and pull to get help and if they haven't seen me for a couple days will check to see that I am OK. Not too long ago I fell in the bathroom and Betty had to call the EMTs to pick me up and take me to the emergency room to check me out. https://www.compass-living.com/senior-living/nm/roswell/peachtree/floor-plans#/ Noel The tires are worn. The shocks are shot. The steering is wobbly. But the engine still runs fine.

Are you going to get the "studio" or the full "one bedroom" apartment? When my parents moved in Golden Palms retirement community, they "bought" their little one-bedroom apartment and then paid monthly maintenance fee to receive all of the 'extras' including the 3 meals per day, parties, social events, et cetera. They even had a full-care nursing facility on the first floor for whenever it became necessary. When my dad passed, they refunded two-thirds of their "purchase price" to me as their sole surviving son. I am happy for you my friend, and I'll rest easier knowing that you will receive excellent care while there. Fr. April 9, 20233 yr Based on the name of your new home, I take it these plantations down the road are peach trees. Dugald Walker
April 9, 20233 yr Author I'm getting the full bedroom Fr Bill. The studio was too small. The 'plantations' are pecan orchards Dugald. I don't know how peach tree got it's name. I had a peach tree in my back yard years ago. We used to get about 60 pounds of peaches a year before it died of something. Noel The tires are worn. The shocks are shot. The steering is wobbly. April 10, 20233 yr If you have fallen before , I think you've made a very wise decision. All the best. Bill W.
April 10, 20233 yr Author I've fallen a couple of times Bill. And I've had a number of close calls, especially when reaching for something. I cannot climb a step ladder. As soon as get on the first rung my legs start shaking. A couple of years ago I stepped on the couch to hang a picture on the wall. I fell over backwards and my head hit the edge of a table. Betty took me to the emergency room and I had to have the cut stapled. The doctor chewed me out and said 80 year olds need to keep both feet on the floor. And then he stapled the cut without numbing it first saying, "I hope this will teach you a lesson". Yeah, I remember how much those staples hurt. Noel The tires are worn. The shocks are shot. April 10, 20233 yr I hope you won't be "grounded" for too long. during your move. Such a high-level career in A Pilot's Life must progress steadily 🙂
