April 11, 20233 yr Dear All, All of a sudden, MSFS has been very difficult to get going. When I start it up, it crashes during the first few screens - sometimes it just crashes just after I have launched it. I've had no recent additions, and I've tried with nothing in my Community folder. If I persist, eventually (after about 10 attempts), it gets to the update page and then there's no issues. May I ask if anyone else is having the same issue and if you have, may I ask how you fixed the problem? Best regards, Peter Keenan
April 11, 20233 yr Usually an addon causes this, but as you have deleted yours it's not that unless you have addons installed in the 'official' folder (some addons do). Very strange that it also works after several attempts. Have you checked what background apps and processes you have running? Is there any difference id you start in safe mode or normal mode? You may also try making sure all of your drivers are up to date as that could be a cause of your issues. Addons in the official folder can cause crashes so if the Community folder is ruled out one needs to check those. Does the CTD also happens in safe mode? If not, it is likely one of the Official addons. You can uninstall them in the sim but I usually just move them out of the Official folder and add them back in batches to determine which of it causes the issue. April 11, 20233 yr Author Thanks to both for your replies. I don't think that the official addons this is the problem as it can crash just after I've launched the application. I would guess that the addons are loaded once the update check has been made. Also, if I can get the program to the check for updates, it continues to run and I can make a flight successfully. Best regards, Peter

Totally unexplained failure to complete startup (normal and safe mode). Crashes at the opening screen (options and aircraft selection). And never saw the "Checking for updates" (was already up to date therefore assumed it wasn't needed). When you mentioned "check the updates", I decided to delete a small item from the "official" folder. Chose "Asobo-services" (because it's less than 1 MB) just to see. The next start, it did check for updates and redownloaded <Asobo-services>. From then on it's back to normal. Not saying it's <Asobo-Services> the culprit, but it seems if for some reason the installation validation doesn't play its part, it's kinda screws the startup process. I guess removing any other core sim folder would have the same effect. Force validation of the installation. Just a guess of course. I don't care, it's now working.🙂 Gerald R https://www.multicrewxp.com
April 13, 20233 yr Author Dear reader, Well, I still haven't been able to fix the issue. It normally crashes before I get to the Asobo copyright screen. If it gets to the Asobo message, then it's fine. It seems to prefer to run under the administrator setting. Tonight, it took me 5 attempts and I then had a great flight from Miami to Nashville with the PMDG 737-800 (which I rate very highly). If anyone can help, I would be grateful. Best regards, Peter
April 14, 20233 yr I had the same problem yesterday. MSFS would crash on startup even in SafeMode. I renamed the Community folder and deleted the exe.xml file but still crashed. I ended up uninstalling and reinstalling. Its working now but I still don't know what the culprit was. Richard
April 14, 20233 yr If you were using MSF2020 Map Enhancement, then it may be blocking your data line to Asobo. The same happened to me a long while ago and that was the culprit. I had to phisicaly edit that file in my system 32 folder. Once I done that MS loaded normally and stopped crashing during start up. Hope this helps. April 14, 20233 yr My MSFS crashes were mostly to addind new scenery. I recently added new KJAC scenery which caused 2 crashes before it cleared up. Also dont use a cache file or clear it before loading a flight after loading new scenery. sp

The tool itself does not block tile loading IMO. sp
