Time to replace my old Vive, but with what?

Recommended Posts

With so many options on the market today i look for advice for the replace of my beloved Vive now in 2023.

- Oculus Quest 2

- Valve Index

- Hp Reverb 2 G2

- Other

Taking in consideration prices(we always want so spend the less possible of course), performance and behavior in MSFS.

Other 2 things to consider, my specs (see below) and that im in the European market, so more expensive that in the US.

Thank you

Meta has confirmed that the Quest 3 will launch this year, possibly in October, so it may not be the ideal time to get a Quest 2.

The Pico 4 could be an option if you don't want to wait.

I've got a Pico 4 coming but that's likely to be a stopgap until Pimax gets all the niggles sorted from the Crystal. Maybe you're not, but I'm worth springing $1600 USD for an amazing headset. 😉

No, for MSFS better Reverb G2.

I have hopes in maybe upgrading from my G2 this year, but not at any cost, I am happy with the reverb. I was sneaking for the Panasonic MeganeX launch, but who knows, I am not married with any company.

I am using the Quest 2 for well over a year now and have a lot of fun with it. Soo much better than 2D. However, it has its limits. Often, instruments only become sharp if you lean a little forward. It is particularly bad with the C414, where the small font labels at switches and buttons force me to get really close to a switch before I can see what I am doing. Also, landscape and clouds are quite blurry compared to 2D flying, but overall the experience is still much more immersive.

I am patiently waiting for a new headset to be released and then will consider upgrading. For the money, the Quest 2 delivers a lot, but it is generally considered to be at the low end for flight simmers.

Yes, Reverb G2 is the best choice, but it's not available anymore in many countries, and HP online stores won't sell it to foreign countries.

So you would have to buy it from 3rd party websites, if you trust them...

If you absolutely cannot wait, go to eBay & find a gently used Reverb G2, or Amazn for ‘reconditioned’ one…Far better experience than Quest 2, much better tools / support.

Im always on it 😉 best prices usually come from outside Europe, and the shipping and custom costs always make it a bad deal, but the radar is ON

Slightly off topic...why is the Quest 2 preferred over the Valve Index or HTC Vive Pro?

Thanks for any feedback.

No off topic at all 🙂 well is the cheaper of them all thats the first one, as the advantage of being wireless and autonomous, not an advantage for FS of course , needs a cable link to play on the PC.

Here the comparative of the 3

Have a look for the DPVR E4.  It might be a contender, though I will probably hang on for a Quest 3.

Thanks for the tip. Anyone using the DPVR E4? Any other headsets coming?
