April 27, 20233 yr I hate to waste everyone's time, but I thought I'd check and see if anyone had an add-on that's not compatible with the latest world update. I've been stuck on 'checking for updates'. When I rename the community folder all is fine, so I assume it's one of my 5 trillion add-ons...lol. The only other thing I can think of I when I installed the update, I installed the base sim side update then exited, then came back later and installed the actual world update and then the ATR. Maybe that screwed something up. Thanks guys. Jeff D. April 27, 20233 yr Half method : remove haff (2.5 trillion) add-ons and chek if it starts or not You will find what "2.5" trillion add-ons is concerned. In this one, remove half ad-ons, use the other half (you have 3.75 trillion good add-ons) And so on. It might take some time to find incompatible add-on(s). You could use addon linker to help you ! Maybe that screwed something up. Thanks guys. I doubt it is any one update. I have the same issue and could not pinpoint a single addon. After some troubleshooting it seems to me that MSFS currently has a limit in the # of addons that are installed. It is not a simple matter of x addons and no more though; there isn't an exact number of folders or addon items I think. I started out disabling all freeware in my community folder but that did NOT solve it, so I thought it must be one of my purchased sceneries. I disabled all my Aerosoft sceneries (had to begin somewhere) and the problem was gone, so I added them back 5 at a time. At some point the problem was back and I thought I was getting somewhere but then I noticed when I these last five and added another five the problem was back again. I then enabled all Aerosoft sceneries again and disabled everything from OrbX. Again, the problem was gone. From what info I gathered on these and other forums there is an issue that was introduced in SU12 and possibly earlier that limits the amount of addons you can have enabled. SU12 came with a change in how updates are checked so that is my guess. The issues started on my end very soon after the release of SU12 but not at the exact same time. At the same time I also had issues with low bandwidth so it might be an issue with the Microsoft servers but from what I gathered these affect Europeans mostly. So right now I am in the process of re-arranging my commercial addons so I can select them by region. That is quite easy for OrbX sceneries, not as easy for Aerosoft since these are organised differently by their installers. However, I am afraid that if I continue purchasing addons it won't be a matter of selecting "Europe" or "America" in Addon linker and I will have to add subregions. Addons purchasd in the marketplace should be disabled from within MSFS which is another reason to keep those to a minimum. April 27, 20233 yr Author Thanks guys. If it's a case of the sheer number of add-ons, hopefully they can fix that. Jeff D. Also I would back up and empty community folder just in case if some addon is incompatible. I forgot all about that. Going to try the add-on linker and see if that works. Even though I have a ton of sceneries, I didn't think I was approaching that high of a number. We'll see what happens when I disable some of them. Jeff D. If you notice the "checking for updates" screen takes longer than usual it is stuck and disconnecting from the internet forces the process to continue in offline mode. You can reconnect as soon as the "checking for updates" part has been skipped. If MSFS is still offline when you are in the menu you can switch to online mode in the Options->Data section. Most things except the marketplace will work as normal. I believe the marketplace will also become available after some time. MSFS might hang again when you end the flight, just disconnect/reconnect again and you are back in the menu. It seems to me a confirmation that the issue is just with the "improved" update mechanism introduced in SU12. Somehow with too many addons the sim cannot check for updates and gets stuck in that phase. Perhaps the update mechanism has a limit off how much data can be processed by MSFS or the servers and too many adds will exceed this.
