P3D V5.4 is available

Recommended Posts

What is/was P3D at its heart? A combat simulator, yes?

If one wants to train combat pilots, what would a many-billion-dollar company want to roll with?

I'll answer my own question.

If I were spending money, I'd want my pilots to fly in a living world with the most accurate terrain possible.

Okay. But if that could be done with the most realistic terrain and weather available, and you have millions of dollars, why would one not avail themselves of current tech?

P3D came about after Microsoft closed the Aces Team responsible for multiple generations of the original Microsoft Flight Simulator.

LM bought the source code for ESP from Microsoft but had to agree to certain rules when improving it. We don't know what those rules are but suffice to say there have now been five generations of their product which is based on a civilian flight simulator, not a military one and certainly not a combat one.

Are you Prepar3D®? - YouTube

To keep your licence you have log some flying over a set period of time the FAA accepts some logged flights in P3D,

this does not include just a desktop PC but full simulator controls hardware. LM did a presentation at flight expo for members.

Thanks, Ray, for your response. What do you expect will eventuate with regard to P3D in three weeks at the Houston event?

I haven't a clue. Backward compatibility would be important for us I'm sure. But then customers want to see improvements over v5. Striking that balance is important and not easy to achieve.

I just have to ask, though: Isn't a v6 what we expect?

And if LM do not announce a v6 in Houston, and do what they've done in the past (mute statues,)  what then?

Hey, if you're not interested in visual fidelity, it is all good! You do you, and wonder where everyone else went.

Each to their own I have MSFS I did the Bata version testing they released it with bugs galore, and they still haven't ironed them all out.

When was the last time you "did the Bata version?"

It's been refined since then, I imagine. 😀

Let's tap the breaks on the MSFS talk here again.  Seems like every thread lately drifts into a comparison between the two..  This thread is about version 5.4 of Prepar3d.

If I want real world visual fidelity, I have plenty of photoreal regions I can activate. I don't use them much because ORBX Global and regions look so good. Many options are there, and I am primarily a short haul tube flyer but occasionally fire up some lighter planes for fun.
