June 15, 20232 yr I can get a ASUS 6950XT TUF Gaming for a very good price,to replace my old GTX 1080TI. That would be my first AMD Card, always had Nvidia. What can i expect,or is it better to wait? Thank you. Mike
June 15, 20232 yr Before I switched to my current RTX 4080 due to frame generation, I had a 6900XT (Sapphire Nitro SE) and this card performed perfectly well in MSFS and I also had it as an upgrade for my former 1080Ti. If the price is good, it will be a reasonable upgrade, if you do not want to go for a 4xxx series card by nVIDIA... Just make sure you use DDU before switching out cards 😉 Greetings, Chris AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, 2x32GB DDR5 6000MT/s RAM, MSI RTX 4090 Ventus 3X, Windows 11 Home, MSFS2024
June 15, 20232 yr Author Thanks Chris----much appreciated. I am retired and disabled and cannot pay what Nvidia want to have for a card with 16GB V-Ram. Mike
June 15, 20232 yr I upgraded my 1080ti/4790k system two weeks ago to a 6950xt/5800x system. Also my first AMD card and indeed CPU and I'd recommend it. I like to fly GA in the UK - Black Square Baron, Wilga, C310 etc and before the upgrade in the London area with admittedly loads of ORBX, Burning Blue and Pilot Plus airports in the community folder I was sub 30fps and stuttery on a mix of medium and high settings. Now I can get a steady 40fps on ultra. This is at 2560x1080. I was a bit nervous trying an AMD card but like you say - very good price in the UK at the moment
June 15, 20232 yr Author Thank you Chairflyer. I also have the AMD 5800x. With the 6950XT this seems to be a good combination. Mike Edited June 15, 20232 yr by bigmike
June 15, 20232 yr Same here - updated from a 1080Ti/3600 combination to a 6950XT/5800X3D system. I run MSFS now on a 3440x1440 display and have nothing to complain about. Even though a min. 850W PSU is recommended, the system runs perfectly fine on my existing 750W PSU. This is also my first AMD GPU and everthing went smoothly with the installation - just remember to activate Smart Access Memory / Resizable BAR in your BIOS to get every bit of benefit with your 5xxxx series CPU (the 1080Ti did not support ReBar so there was never the option available). I actually run my GPU on SILENT mode (hardware bios switch at the GPU) and not OC mode but everything runs perfectly. The 6950XT GPU is massive in size. Make sure you got the space and mine needs 3x PCI-E 8-pin connectors. GG
July 2, 20232 yr Author I got the ASUS TUF Gaming OC Edition for 630.-Euro,but i don`t get better FPS as with my old 1080TI. All Nvidia folders are deleted. Do you use DX12 and AMD FSR2 ? Can you please post your settings? Thank you. Mike
July 2, 20232 yr Ouch, I never read and asked about the CPU, sorry. If a GPU upgrade provides you no FPS increase, you are fully CPU limited. So either increase GPU heavy settings to use the overhead you have now or reduce CPU heavy settings. DX12 is for sure also a thing to try if you are fully CPU limited. FSR2 will provide you nothing in a CPU limited scenario. Greetings, Chris AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, 2x32GB DDR5 6000MT/s RAM, MSI RTX 4090 Ventus 3X, Windows 11 Home, MSFS2024
July 2, 20232 yr Author I have a AMD 5800x with 32 GB RAM.Thanks for the suggestions, will try tomorrow. Mike
July 6, 20232 yr Author I have this GPU now for one week, but this is my first AMD GPU,always had Nvidia. I cannot get it working with good performance CPU Is a 5800x with 32GB RAM DDR4. Can soneone please post the settings in MSFS? Must i delete something in MSFS when switching from Nvidia to AMD? When i use FSTL,frame drops 10 to15FPS. Thank you. Mike

I would highly recommend you change your CPU to a 5800X3D AMD Ryzen 9800X3D/ Asus ROG Strix B650E F Gaming WiFi / Asrock Taichi 9070XT / 32GB G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo DDR5 6000 / 2x ADATA XPG 8200 Pro NVME / Arctic Liquid Freezer II 280 / Seasonic Vertex 1000w PSU / Lian Li LanCool II Mesh Performance / Asus VG34VQL3A / Topping E70 Velvet DAC & L70 Amp /Sennheiser HD660s2 Thrustmaster Boeing Yoke + TCA Sidestick + TFRP Rudders
