July 5, 20232 yr Installed said version some days ago but did my first flight in it today. On my way from ORBX LEPA to ORBX ESSA in the PMDG 777X. Got to say I am impressed. Not bad at all with draw distance and object density to the full right position. Most other sliders full right and still (!) sitting at 100FPS at the ground at LEPA. This overhead in FPS got me thinking. What do you guys and gals (with Nvidia cards) set in Nvidia settings? Is it best to lock FPS in that app or in-sim for example? What other settings do you run with? Richard 7950x3d | 32Gb 6000mHz RAM | 8Tb NVme | RTX 4090 | MSFS | P3D | XP12
July 5, 20232 yr I use Nvidia Profile Inspector. Later I can share settings... 13600KF - AIO - 32GB DDR4 - RTX4070 - UW1440p GSync - USB DAC - 2TB NVMe - Windows 11 Pro - Gladiator NXT EVO - 1 Gbps Fiber - MSFS 2024
July 5, 20232 yr For long time i limit frames with NVIDIA control app, but finally after some testing came to conclusion that limiting frames in the sim gives me more fluid and slightly better result - especially during panning i have smoother changes, with NVIDIA control often i had stutters during panning. Interesting. Will try limiting in-sim first then! Richard 7950x3d | 32Gb 6000mHz RAM | 8Tb NVme | RTX 4090 | MSFS | P3D | XP12
July 5, 20232 yr Author So, limiting in-sim was somewhat of a mixed bag for me. Without limit I get smooth panning and ridiculous FPS. With in-sim limiting I actually suffer FPS drops when, for example, panning the camera. Going to try the NVidia settings instead. Any input greatly appreciated as I haven't tinkered with P3D settings in quite some while. Richard 7950x3d | 32Gb 6000mHz RAM | 8Tb NVme | RTX 4090 | MSFS | P3D | XP12
July 5, 20232 yr @Swe_Richard I believe that many settings can be improved. 13600KF - AIO - 32GB DDR4 - RTX4070 - UW1440p GSync - USB DAC - 2TB NVMe - Windows 11 Pro - Gladiator NXT EVO - 1 Gbps Fiber - MSFS 2024

July 5, 20232 yr Author Very preliminary results. The caveat being that I started tinkering with in-sim FPS limits at the end of a 4 hr flight... 🤪 Now: Locked externally (at 60 FPS) at the cargo terminal (ORBX ESSA) in the PMDG 777X gives me 60 FPS and perfectly smooth camera panning. No dips what so ever. As an additional plus is the fact that the computer is 10 deg C cooler when not having to produce 100-200 FPS for no reason at all. Almost everything full right in P3D... Never thought I'd live to see the day.. Richard 7950x3d | 32Gb 6000mHz RAM | 8Tb NVme | RTX 4090 | MSFS | P3D | XP12
July 5, 20232 yr I found that if you can set your monitor refresh rate to 30hz, it is the single best way to get a fluid, no stutter experience. Ah, even at a locked 60 fps? It feels kind of counter intuitive, but I have never even thought about it tbh.. 😅 Richard 7950x3d | 32Gb 6000mHz RAM | 8Tb NVme | RTX 4090 | MSFS | P3D | XP12

Yes, but that's in conjunction with V-Sync, which effectively locks the frame rate at the hardware refresh rate (30 Hz in this case), and prevents needlessly slamming the CPU with generating lookahead frames above that hardware-locked rate. If you instead set a limit in the slider setting, the program will still generate look-ahead frames as fast as it can crank them out, which uses up the processor headroom on the core running the main thread--you want to keep that in reserve to absorb the occasional workload spike that comes along.
