That's a very impresive, powerful but light weight motor. And they intend to swap out the batteries for better ones as they become available.

Yah, and how exactly much will this little trip cost.....?

We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically.

$2.25 to $11 per mile. Joby were aiming for $3.

100 mile range is ridiculous. They will need to improve a huge amount to be relevent.

Thank you.

No its not. It's not designed to take you 3000 miles on holiday. It's a short range air taxi. If they hit the price per mile they are aiming at it'll be as cheap as an Uber.

They give the example of flying from a heliport in downtown Manhattan to JFK. That's the only kind of service they will be able to provide, isn't it? I think there is still a helicopter service connecting LaGuardia with JFK, so they could do that, too. This must be aimed primarily at businessmen going to airports.

Helicopter would be a lot more expensive than the Joby. $3 per mile is an ultra low cost. There are numerous short range routes around the world it could serve. Hence why a multitude of other EVTOL's are in development.

Quite advantageous that the Joby is so quiet too.

And indeed, we have some pretty amazing battery tech on its way, and Joby intend to retrofit their vehicle with that tech when available. So range can only increase.

They've sold quite a few to the US airforce, first two to be delivered next year, to Edwards airforce base. 9 in total.
