My latest disaster...

Have you checked with your insurance company?  Any coverage under comprehensive, road hazard, etc?

Charlie, I only carry liability insurance. It would be foolish to pay for full coverage on a twenty-five-year-old car... 🤨

Set up the GoFund Me Bill - you can count me in.

I had to do some research to determine the problems and get an estimate for repair.

@n4gix I know that $2,500 may not stretch to many cars in the USA. However, given the extra unseen damage that may have occurred and which may flare up post-repairs, might it be worth considering selling your current car for parts and buying a replacement?

I had a quick look online and found these Autotrader - Used Cars for Sale near Little Rock, AR The 2014 Ford Focus could be interesting.
I'm sure your compatriots will give you much more useful local advice and other places to look. Just thought that you may want to consider an alternative option.

Will donate later.

Interesting is one way to look at the extensive damage to the rearend...

I know the history of my little jewel. I am only the second owner of this vehicle. It was bought new, garage kept, and only driven at most twice per week to grocery store and church. The husband was the only driver, so when he died his widow asked her nephew to sell the car on his car lot. It had only 28,594 miles on the odometer as of 2008 when I bought it.

Today, the odometer shows 154,018 miles. The only repair I've had to make was a general tune-up, new plugs, wires, coil packs, and a heavy-duty alternator. The rest has been normal maintenance such as oil changes, lubrication, et cetera.

I won't dismiss the idea out of hand, but will keep it in my back pocket for now.

Hi Fr Bill,

I tried to post earlier but I have had about as crazy a week as you did but without consequence, I have donated $50 from New Zealand so that should work out to about $397 for me due to really bad exchange rates 🤣

I know two things in this world, number one when you move to a new place it takes time to meet people and build those relationships, number two your car is awesome and has many years ahead, also an abundance of spare parts, especially from the rear because mostly they get damaged from front end collisions and you end up with excess spare parts for the rear. Point is if you shop around and get to know more folks I bet you can find a better price, and if this fundraiser exceeds that price to fix your car take some time for yourself because you deserve that too my friend 😇

Just paid for an inner tube.

Do we still have inner tubes?

Thanks Matthew! Your generosity is much appreciated. One of the first things I did was to join the local amateur radio club as it is one of the quickest ways to meet a large group of people from diverse backgrounds.

Thanks Ron, your donation is much appreciated! I'm pretty sure that inner tubes are still available, but not so much for passenger vehicles any longer. 😜
