August 8, 20232 yr This might not be the place to complain, BUT I just purchase the Just Flight F4 pantom, It flies great etc. My problelm is the landing gear has little or NO compression which makes it almost impossible to land on the carriers!! I tried making it lighter by removing fuel etc.Might have helped a little bit! Anyone have any ideas on how to make it better. Thank you in advance. Mouse

August 8, 20232 yr Given what we know about CV ops in MSFS, I wouldn't blame the plane first. I.e., what leads you to believe it's gear compression...? Are you doing well with the Super Hornet, Tomcat or other CV compatible addons?
August 9, 20232 yr As others have said, proper gear compression is sadly lacking on a lot of aircraft in the sim. Believe it or not, the cheap LVFR A319 has the best I have witnessed for a long time - I was surprised at that. You can actually feel it touch down and then gradually sink - it doesn't do the stupid hard bounce that a lot of aircraft do. It actually touches down then settles lower as the speed drops off. I can't wait to compare that to the - Fenix A319, soon I hope! Coming back to this Phantom, while I do fully understand the DC Design product placing, and I won't complain about that, does anyone think the panel lines are over-exaggerated on this model? I have never seen phantoms look like that. I would have picked this up just for a blast, but I just can't stand the look of the texturing, and it isn't just the panel lines. DC Designs should try to up their game on that. I am reluctant to part money for it. Edited August 9, 20232 yr by bobcat999 Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind). Agreed - they are an eyesore. I've browsed through a number of F-4 photos, and while some panels lines are evident, they're never as stark or clearly defined as shown on the DC Phantom. I wasn't going to buy it anyway, being happy enough with the JF Hawk and Dave Garwood's Hunters for my fast jet jollies, but I do understand why some people would be put off the F-4. A reasonable exterior model, but rather spoiled by poor texturing. Surely not everybody was kung fu fighting. https://rationalwiki.org
August 9, 20232 yr you're barking up the wrong tree, Dean from DCD earlier posts when he began developing admitted his addons are only just fun and the low tech user and weren't meant to be high quality and detailed. But recently by the tone of his posts, he has place themself up there upon the top developers and his addons are just as good as those top devs and anyone with critique are just whingers which now he refuses to listen to. The sad thing is that he actually believes that his products are that good. No matter how much positive or negative critique you he will only read what he wants to read and tell himself. as the saying goes, it's wish in one hand and s#!t in the other and see which one fills first with this dev. Pitty he was open to critique when he developed for p3d. Matt NT - AUSTRALIA

Got my money back for that one. Thanks Okay, that's good to hear. If you're having luck with the others (esp since DCD made two of them), I'd say that points to an issue with the addon itself. BUT, i suspect it's not gear compression as the CV & addon mechanics aren't really Hi Fi in the first place. With accurately modeled carrier landings, AoA is the absolute critical metric to nail, along with being exactly on glide slope. And you may have something with the gross weight of the aircraft: since empty weight is approx 28,000lbs, I'd say take it down to less than 30k and see if the above combo works. If not, it might just be a bug in the addon's mechanics of some sort, and I'd report it to DCD or see if there are other reports (like on msfs forums).
August 11, 20232 yr Author Thanks for all of your help! I'm slowly getting the hang of it! I got rid of alot of weight, that helped alot!
