Blackbird Simulations and MILVIZ freebees

Featured Replies

MILVIZ made a nice distribution of some of ther older stuff to be distributed free by Blackbird Simulations.  No support though.  I've found most of them just about impossible to install. What's the secret?

With several, Microsoft defender blocks installation. Apparently doesn't recognize publisher.  With others the installation path is unclear.  Some installs appear to go normally, files download, but the aircraft never appears on within P3D.

On a few I disconnected my connection to the internet during the install so Defender can't call home and block the installation. That appears to cure the problem, the install proceeds, but the aircraft doesn't appear in the selection menu.

I don't know how old these models are, but some apparently look for P3D v4 path which must be different than v5.4.

Overall, just one of life's little abrasions, but I'm glad they were free.

Most definetly a great collection of freebees 🙂

I have struck the issue of AV blocking downloads, however there has always been an option to allow the download to continue anyway.

Note: when items are downloaded from the internet Windows will typically mark them as "Blocked" as the internet zone is not considered to be safe.

Windows and Defender (as well as other programs) do use the "Blocked" flag to determine how to handle the file.

Once an item or archive is downloaded its properties should be checked and "UnBlocked" which is just a tickbox on the downloaded file's Properties -> General Tab.

Also if an archive (i.e. zip file) is extracted prior to being unblocked, all the extracted files will have inherited the blocked status.

They were very very specific about completely disabling antivirus during install.

Temporarily suspend Defender: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/turn-off-defender-antivirus-protection-in-windows-security-99e6004f-c54c-8509-773c-a4d776b77960

Who is "they"?  I downloaded direct from Blackbird. "They" did not link to the Microsoft warning and I wouldn't have expected them to.

Thanks. I didn't know that.

I believe it is (or should be) common knowledge especially for flight sim related files to disable a/v software, then proceed to install. Otherwise you are inviting a lot of headaches. Just my $0.02, of course.

BlackBird nee MilViz, of course - in the User Guides for the addons. Did you read those yet?

I included the link to MS so you can avoid the problems you're experiencing - which is exactly what MilViz was warning about.

But hey, you wanna keep on struggling with installation gremlins, have it your way...
