Undervolt 5800X3D

Recommended Posts

There is a PC app made for undervolting that cpu. I used it right after installation of that cpu a couple weeks ago.

I'll find the thread. Oh, one link in the message thread is broken so I will see if I can find it.

You may be referring to Ryzen Master, which I did have on my PC at one time, though not sure if I uninstalled it.  I will take a look, but your suggestion reminded me.

Here's the thread.

https://github.com/PrimeO7/How-to-undervolt-AMD-RYZEN-5800X3D-Guide-with-PBO2-Tuner#5-how-to-set-pbo2-tuner-manually

here's the new link to debug-cli.7z, download icon is top right.

I'm using -30 on all cores. The thing to do is to use this argument when running it with a shortcut instead of directly:

-30 -30 -30 -30 -30 -30 -30 -30

One click on the shortcut and you set -30 on all 8 cores.

You may be able to use -45 on all cores. Ryzen Master I use to test the results by gradually using -05 more each core for each test. I don't use Ryzen Master to change things, just to test things. I set things with debug-cli pbo tuner.

I'm using -30 all cores. One mouse click on the shortcut I created with the long argument to set -30 on each core.

Yep that is what use as well. -30 all cores set via an argument on a shortcut.

I'm very happy with the Noctua DH15 cooler, it worked good before with a 5800X and now a 5900X. I decided to not buy the 5800X3D because it's slower in the normal apps like photoshop or resolve, the 5900X is a very good compromise with 64MB cache and very nice performance with 12 cores in FS20, 24 threads work better than before and never had any slow down in the sim. I tried to play with undervolting at -25 all cores and it worked flawlessy over 5075MHz. But the fps gain in FS20 was ridicolous, so I run it at stock frequency, the PBO enabled in the bios is pushing at about 4950 MHz. Normally, with a 30°C ambient temperature the 5900X is not going over 65/70°C when running FS20.

Ryzen 7 5800X3D. MSFS runs temps about 68-77, never has hit as high as 80. Right now its 54 C, not running the sim.

One 120 mm H60 Corsair fan. With $30 Noctua 3000 rpm fan (I through the Corsair fan away right out of the box. It's a good fan, but with one 120mm radiator I wanted a better one). Using stock fans, at least a 240 mm radiator may be required. My case is small, room for only a small radiator.

If a  3DX cpu is overheating, something must be wrong with the cooler. That cpu draws way less power than Intel's do.

I agree.. There are differences in implementation ( for example i set my stuff up manually old school via the mb bios vs using an app like fielder) but the general idea and resulting output is correct.

Your CPU should handle Cinebench R23 benchmark for 10 minuts without throttling, if it doesen't, something is wrong with you cooling.

If you're going to optimize in bios, then Steve 86 message has a good video to follow.

EDIT: that video was for a different cpu. this is probably more to the point. Just a simple voltage reduction. Very conservative.

For a few years, I always run "core temp" which boots up when the computer is turned on. It is tiny and uses almost no resources. A little window shows the cpu temp. It hides in the taskbar.

If you add a watercooler without having had one before, watch youtube videos about routing the water tubes. There're right ways and wrong ways, having to do with gravity.
