October 13, 20232 yr Any idea why something seems to be wrong with my new install. MSI b650 ddr5 32g 7800x3d m.2 990 and ssd 3060ti. Have all default msfs settings and default aircrafts. I am really stumped. tks.
October 13, 20232 yr Your FPS is so low that it sounds like you might be using the onboard video instead of your GPU. I know this sounds silly, but check to make sure you’ve plugged your monitor directly into the GPU and not the HDMI out on the motherboard. It’s a super common and easy to make mistake. if that’s not the issue - try changing to the “low” graphics preset and report back on your FPS with that setting. We’ll do a process of elimination.
October 13, 20232 yr Author Indeed, it was the video cable still inserted in the motherboard graphics port. Thank you for the reminder. tc
October 13, 20232 yr Author Actually, the graphic card port did not make a difference. When I made a new install, I redirected the installation to a second disk. I notice that the Community folder is filled with many, many files. I thought that this folder should be practically empty. When I renamed it, MSFS fails to create a new Community folder.

October 13, 20232 yr Author A new nvidia driver install seems to have done the trick. Now, can someone please help get out of this convoluted path: C:\Users\tony\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages I would like to have the Community folder located as a discreet folder in my second disk. Currently, the community folder is inside the Packages in the C drive. Thanks Tc

You can use the AddonsLinker app to relocate content from your Community folder to a new folder on a separate drive. This is easy and low risk. https://flightsim.to/file/1572/msfs-addons-linker 2. You can copy/move the Packages folder to wherever you want. After the move edit the UserCfg.opt file in the Local Cache folder.. last line: InstalledPackagesPath "E:\MSFS\Packages" If you moved the folder to your E drive into a new MSFS folder, as an example. Try a copy first and test the outcome. If it works, delete the original folder. Edited October 13, 20232 yr by Bert Pieke Bert
October 14, 20232 yr be careful when you edit UserCfg.opt file, and be careful if you, instead of doing that, edit the line at the bottom of the screen in "searching for updates" when you boot up the sim. The new path you put either in the file or the sim must be exactly correct to your new path. If it isn't, then MSFS will immediately start to download the whole sim all over again during when you next boot it up. Because MSFS will think your Community and Official folders are completely empty. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Let's see if I understand this correctly: 1. move Packages from its default path to any other path. 2. change address in usercfg to reflect new path where Packages is located 3. I can move Community forder, which currently resides in the Packages folder, and place it as a separate folder any where I choose. MSFS will find the new location of the Community folder. 4. Add on Linker facilitates only those files in the Community folder Is this correct?
October 14, 20232 yr Whilst you have found the problem, if you have not done so, you may need to update your mobo bios and chipset drivers from the manufacturers website if you have not already done so as the windows versions are often out of date. It goes without saying that video drivers should also be the latest ones from Nvidia rather than the ones provided by windows. October 14, 20232 yr MSFS cannot find the Community file by itself. You must tell MSFS exactly and precisely where it is. I do it by booting up MSFS and entering the new path at the bottom of the searching for updates MSFS bootup page. Or you can do the same thing by editing the file mentioned above (with notepad). To me, it makes little sense to only move Community. I moved both Community and Official. I moved them to a new folder I created called MSFS2020. So the path is C:/MSFS2020. And now in that new folder is a folder named Community. And another folder named Steam. In the Steam folder is a folder named Official. The folder named Steam will have a different name if your version is not a steam version. Just look and see what the name is. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel.
