October 15, 20232 yr I just completed 3 different flights in the “Safe Mode” choice that comes up after a CTD (though I force closed MSFS while opening to get the choice of Safe Mode). I did several flights across the San Juan Island area at jet speeds AND an Ontario to LAX flight and couldn’t get the game to stutter, freeze for a few seconds, no normal annoying behaviors...just silky smoothness. My wife hearing my amazement said “well, duh, you disn’t overload it with all your add ons!” But this now has me wondering exactly WHAT add ons (in the Community or even the Official folder) were absent that caused such supreme smoothness? Because I’ve gone in with a very empty Community folder via the Add On linker and still had stutters and freezes. More experimentation needed....
October 16, 20232 yr When launching Microsoft Flight Simulator in Safe Mode, mods from the community folder and third party content from the marketplace will be temporarily deactivated. So your issue(s) are because of third party Addons. With AddonsLinker you can activate/deactivate them one by one to see which one(s) causes the CTDs. Not sure how it works with Marketplace Addons as I do not buy them. 5950x3d 5.4-5.7 GHz - Asus ROG 870 Crosshair Apex - GSkill Neo 2x 24 Gb 6000 mhz / cas 26 - MSI RTX 5090 Gaming Trio OC - 1x SSD M2 6000 2TB - 1x SSD M2 2800/1800 1Tb - Corsair 5400 case - Corsair 360 liquid cooling set - 3x 75’ TCL tv. 13600 6 cores @ 5.1 GHz / 8 cores @ 4.0 GHz (hypterthreading on) - Asus ROG Strix Gaming D - GSkill Trident 4x Gb 3200 MHz cas 15 - Asus TUF RTX 4080 16 Gb - 1x SSD M2 2800/1800 2TB - 2x Sata 600 SSD 500 Mb - Corsair D4000 Airflow case - NXT Krajen Z63 AIO liquide cooling - FOV : 200 degrees My flightsim vids : https://www.youtube.com/user/fswidesim/videos?shelf_id=0&sort=dd&view=0
October 16, 20232 yr It's tricky to use addon linker to move stuff in and out of the Official folder, because some of those folders need to stay in Official or MSFS will at least start to download the whole sim when you boot it up. But all the 3rd party addons purchased in the marketplace can all be moved in and out safely. So you could just manually move them When testing things in Community or Official, it is very slow to do them all one at a time. Much easier to move half of them at once. If it now works, then you know the culprit is in the half you moved. Next try putting half of those back into Official and retest. And so forth. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. October 16, 20232 yr It maybe also be the sheer amount of scenery add-ons and traffic add-ons which are active in a specific area. - Harry 9800x3D (Strix x870e-E) - 64GB RAM (DDR5 6000, CL 30) - RTX 5090, 34'' 1440p OLED HDR - Windows 11 Pro (1TB M.2) - MSFS 2024 (MS Store, 4TB M.2).
October 17, 20232 yr Author Through add on linker and selective Official folder uninstalls I’m running a VERY spartan version of MSFS. And it’s probably because of reduced CPU load on my 10900K, but I’m seeing silky smooth performance and vexing issues like terrain spikes around the official Friday Harbor airport, periodic freezes and stutters, etc. are gone. Even the photogrammetry of downtown LA is crystal clear! It’s not that add on scenery or AI boats or planes or the rest are bad, it’s just that the uber-simple near default sim has a reduced load that leads (so far) to a wonderful experience. Or it’s chance. This is an experiment for now, but this Walden-like simplicity might become my new flightsim religion! 🙂 Anybody frustrated by anything maybe try ultra simplicity.
October 19, 20232 yr This has me intrigued. I disabled absolutely everything, moved stuff from the marketplace to a different folder, and was running a completely vanilla MSFS (with WU's). The performance was honestly about the same. I used the A310 (heaviest default plane on frames), and was getting pretty expected performance. Load times were insanely fast, about 30 seconds from clicking on MSFS to the home screen. The issue I posted about before (panning through the horizon causing a massive stutter) was still there.....which is really frustrating. For comparison, at EHAM, default, no ASOBO version installed vanilla MSFS, I was getting around 90 FPS with frame gen. Same settings, FT EHAM with ALL addons, I was getting 70. Considering FG doubles frames, it's really only a 10 FPS difference....this is with Powerlines, We Love VFR, various airports, planes, and traffic... the list goes on. In a more realistic scenario, with the PMDG 737, I'm getting 90-100 FPS...so it hasn't appeared to be worth it (running Spartan mode), thought on paper it sounds like a really good idea. October 19, 20232 yr Author Sorry it didn’t work for you....to me it has made all the difference....I can now fly without one burp or stutter all the way from Ontario over Burbank circle back to land at KBUR.....or fly the San Juans...or whatever....not one stutter. BUT I also no longer have my AI traffic or ships or add on airports either. But it’s worth not having some pretty severe stutters and freezes for me. I have a 10900K, RX 6800 Card...many folks have much better systems so my draconian measures surely aren’t needed....but they’re working for me so far. I CAN use my add on planes without issues, which is great, and the sim loads MUCH faster. Will test more later...just got back from a trip in the real Global Express the company I work for owns today...only a 333 mile trip, but I still feel like a Khardashian for the day! 🙂
