especially considering that you can't include anything freeware into a commercial product

I assume it would be possible if the author agrees.

And than there are all the legal issues, will never happen, Not so simple,

the point is not to integrate X-World directly but use the same source data which is freely available (OSM and MS building footprint) to build something within XP12 in a similar way to what Armin did with X-world.

Just out of curiosity, what would these legal issues be? Because I already thought about that and was wondering if that could be an option in future.

Well that is for the lawyers is it not, things may be free but only to a point, than you start paying, there may be other reasons for Laminar not using some things unbeknonw to us.

Lawyers would only look at it if someone complained to them. And if the authors agrees with Laminar implementing their work, i don‘t see how this would happen. But probably the authors simply prefer to keep it standalone for whatever reason.

Depends. If X-World, was, say licensed under GPLv3, any third party implementing it into their product would have to license at least the scenery part of said product under the same, i.e. GPLv3, or any compatible license. In application, this would mean that the entire scenery, including source data would have to be made available to the public. Granted, DSF files can only be used in X-Plane, but still, the sources can be used in any other project.

(To be honest, I'm not even sure about X-World being completely compliant to the licenses of *its* source data, but better not think too much about it...)
