November 14, 20232 yr Commercial Member I tend to stay away from the user cfg file and just adjust everything from in sim menu. I’ve spent years doing that in older sims and I refuse to still do it 🤣. I think the TLOD and render scale / aa will help with the ground texture resolution.
November 14, 20232 yr If you want the sharpest ground textures, you will need to try 4k and {Terrain LoDFactor 4.000000 } and {ObjectsLoD LoDFactor 2.000000 } I also prefer {Shadows MaxSliceCount 4 Size 8192 and {PostProcess Enabled 1 EyeAdaptation 0 ColorGrading 0 Sharpen 1 Fringe 0 LensDistortion 0 Dirt 1 LensFlare 0 FilmGrain 0 Vignette 0 LensBlurMultiplier 1.000000 FringeMultiplier 1.000000 } YMMV and also your device might struggle, depending on what it is. November 14, 20232 yr I used to run with a high TLOD in areas which didn't have any deatailed scenery but have found over time, much over 200 is asking for trouble. A lot of people expect both high detail and a high quality, but in reality it's a trade off. I think the OP may be looking at 4k videos and wondering why his 2k monitor may not be as sharp. It may also be because he needs to fine tune his Nvidia settings and there are plenty of videos on youtube explaining how to do this ( but again be aware of that trade off between performance and quality). As ever, on a forum such as this, can be found people with apparently the same settings whose experience varies from diabolical to excellent. Equally, there are those for whom the frame rate is the most important feature. As you mention, there is always a trade off and my preference and apparently, that of the topic author, is visual quality over framerate.
November 14, 20232 yr Why do you use TLOD 170 with your system? You could go 200 and probably above without stuttering. Also, if you turn off sharpening, the textures become less crisp, not more. If I were you, I'd reset all settings (nVidia CP to default, MSFS to Ultra preset), restart and take it from there. Yours seems one of those cases where excessive tweaking leads to counterproductive results. 7800X3D | 2x32 GB DDR5-6000 CL32 | RTX 5080 | Alienware OLED 34" | 1 Gbps fiber
November 14, 20232 yr All I can add is, Mr Fuzzy's advice all the way (especially to turn on sharpening in the config file - and you can then fine tune the amount of sharpening with the slider inside the sim). And 2. relating to Reader's shadow tweak above, it does work great (lovely sharp shadows), but if people have performance problems at 8192 with that setting (I did with my old 1080Ti), then there is an intermediate setting of 6144 that works great. Even at 4k resolution I can't notice any difference between 6144 and 8192, but performance was slightly better. At 4096 the shadows are still a bit soft. I have a 4080 now which smashes through anything, but I have still left it at 6144 as I still can't see any real difference with that and 8192. The shadows tweak is one of the best tweaks in the file in my opinion. Edited November 14, 20232 yr by bobcat999 Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind). November 14, 20232 yr I have never seen crisp ground textures in MSFS, ever. Even the runways are blurry above 2000 feet or so looking down at them.
