Anyone getting system freezing up since SU14?

It's not that, I was flying with default traffic.

That rules it out, I guess. I'll keep experimenting...

I also seem to be getting a box pop up with a DoneIO error, never seen that before. Overall SU14 gets a big 👎 from me.

I've heard of that error before. I saw it in a forum. PMDG, maybe?

Think it's more general, I've had it when PMDG is disabled via add on linker. Have set FSUIPC to a delayed start, not seen it happen since - need a good few flights to work out if that was the cause of that....

It just happened to me. A first. The keyboard would freeze but the joystick still works (eg. adjusting the heading bug with Ctrl-Ins and Ctrl-Del). I was able to replicate the error in several default planes. Never had the problem before.

Hardware: i7-8700k, GTX 1070-ti, 32GB ram, NVMe/SSD drives with lots of free space.
Software: latest Windows 10 Pro, P3Dv4.5+, FSX Steam, and lots of addons (100+ mostly Orbx stuff).

I was having this issue (freezing on the welcome screen, etc) and CTD’s.

Using event viewer, I was able to ascertain that it started on 20OCT23. Tracing back I was able to ascertain that the only change to my computer was a Nvidia driver update (545.84) which I installed on 18OCT23 via GeForce Experience (and I have always updated when a new driver was available, and for years), Current driver on system was 546.17.

I did a fair amount of googling which lead me to a Reddit Nvidia page, where it seemed from that chat from users that the last stable driver was 537.58 and this seemed to be almost universally agreed especially for 4080 4090 graphic cards.

So I uninstalled GeForce Experience (logging out first as per Reddit) and using DDU, removed 546.17 and I then installed 537.58.which I had downloaded and had ready to go.

Result? No CTD’s.

I have had no issues at all since I took this action in the last week of November and have flown error, freeze and CTD since. So be weary of Nvidia drivers higher than 537.58 if you have a 4080 or 4090 card.

From the other thread about CTDs:

OK guys I found my issue w the CTDs or system hangs w SU14. On ground  60FPs Cpu load and temps were low,  12ms cpu time and gpu 10 or less ms.  CPU temps like 55c/65c. Take off from Kdtw payware w either the fenix or pmdg (repeated w both) and about 10m into the flight the computer start to throttle and I mean biiiig time, Ive never seen this before , temps spike to 90C which is insane on the 7900x3d, but the weird thing is the thread and cpu loads were not any different then on ground.  I REALLY have no idea whats up w that but I repeated it twice and the same area over michigan the cpu went crazy hot throttled and turned off the system probably causing the hang and ctds. I went to bios and set the PBO to limit to 80c.  Tried again and had a couple spikes up to 80c but system did not stutter/hang or CTD.  There might be something wonky going on in the game threads. not sure but found my issue. I suggest you all monitor temps and make sure your cpu doesnt get some throttling. You wont know it by thread load as I said my thread load was low and still CPU got maxed out! peace

Hi,

It happens to me lately. MSFS is freezing continously.

The only solution I have found is Ctrl + Alt + Del.

Regards.

...the last 6 flights (I've since given up on this version) have all gone to la-la land; sim running, but you can't alt-tab to it. 😕

Dang, after all the troubleshooting I've seen Landon do and now all these posts and I'm having problems too.  I wonder if Asobo and MS even know about this?  Or care.  If I put out woodworking products like this I'd be eating sawdust.

Had a few of these in the last few days myself (actually just had one just now at 40,000ft heading from KFFC to KVNY in the Longitude). Not a good mark for SU14...😔

We've seen every issue in the book since MSFS's release.  This is not the worst we've had.  Growing pains.  If the beta testers don't catch these things we do.😔

I agree Dillon but what stinks, for me anyway, is this is the exact lousy feeling I had with FSX.  When the chimes sounded you dreaded the inevitable CTD.

What you can do is refresh your cache more regularly before your flights. That seemed to help me a bit especially on shorter GA flights.

How do I do that?
