December 27, 20232 yr I have not decided on a flight recorder for 2020 and having used the FSX version which is not included with 2020 was wondering if there is a possible clone or near clone that works in 2020. The experimental version in 2020 is really confusing and gave up on that one. What are you using, free or pay ware? Does not matter. Just want a program that makes sense to a new old timer. I do not need production type programs, just one with fly by and tower views etc. Thanks for any comments, Skip

On a replay could I see the traffic and the weather which was present during the recording or not? Intel i9-13900K, GIGABYTE GAMING Z790, GeForce RTX4090, 32GB
January 4, 20242 yr I have FS Control Replay which I have hardly used at all. Would definitely like to start using it. Does it have a camera utility which allows you to place a camera viewpoint at the airport to watch landings/take-offs? Or does that have to be done with the clunky MSFS interface?

You use FS Control Replay to capture the flight data. You then, through the software, replay the flight in 'live' MSFS while recording the 2D screen view. The aircraft itself will repeat its previous flight but now - while you are still recording your screen - you can use all and any of the MSFS camera views, internal or external and it is these views that are recorded on your video. So yes - it is the MSFS camera controls you are using and recording onto video. It's a clever concept but takes some getting your head around the strengths and limitations of the approach. The strengths include the fact that you have the full power of MSFS for internal and external views. The limitations include - as I found out by trying it while flying multiplayer in close formation with a colleague - that is doesn't record the other aircraft in the vicinity when you actually did the flight...but it DOES record aircraft (including multiplayer) flying around when you are doing the replay and video recording! I haven't fully trialed that aspect - I think there are limitations, but maybe also opportunities for the inventive folks around here.
