Why You Fly What You Fly?

Featured Replies

Do you pursue a technically realistic airplane or do you have a 'loyalty' to a particular type? A320,or B787? etcetera

Maybe you prefer a vendor? A company\livery? A route?

ME - Passengers, as technical as possible, no particular type, livery\company any vendor gets a shot and I've found a few I prefer. (A2A, QW, iFly)

I have a folder hanging under my table for normal checklists and I'll put most recent flown type on the top, so whenever I don't know what to fly, I'll pick the one on the button.

I have an alien on one shoulder and cat on the other. They hiss and suggest completely different planes every time!

I most often end up flying something similar to what I have been up front in the seat of (although I'm not a pilot). A small private plane.

Or something vintage (because that's the type I would run to look at if all kinds of planes were lined up for the public to visit). For instance, I would not run over to the Boeing 7xx, if I could get a look inside a JU-52.

I would rather watch a show at Duxford then A320s arrive at Heathrow.

The Lionheart Quest Kodiak almost exclusively.

In my flightsim world there are no wars going on anywhere so I can fly anywhere I desire.  It's always summer and ideal weather.  Just 3/8 cirrus at 35,000ft to give the sky a bit of texture.

I'm not trying to pretend I'm a real pilot on instruments in some airliner making a difficult approach.  I'm just passing time in a pleasant way and remembering what I really used to fly (Pipers, Cessnas and a Mooney once in a while).  A nice break from watching Gunsmoke on television or playing dime Bingo in the rec room.

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.

Great topic...
I buy/fly whatever I think is good for my company.

I fly OnAir career addon - out of KFFZ - Pheonix AZ area.
Dry Air Aviation (DRY9)
I have to always ask myself, how will I use this aircraft in my company?
What specific role will this aircraft fill?
Do I really need this specific aircraft?

I like it because it makes it feel more realistic as to why I would purchase said aircraft.

Ciao!

As a pilot and my love for aviation, I fly it all. I flew heavies at the start of my aviation career and loved thundering down the runway in a heavy DC10. That type of flying comes with it's unique challenges such as climb gradients, obstacles, weight bearing limits and runway lengths. I moved over to business aviation and it opened up more uniqueness. I don't have those performance limitations that often and I can get into almost any airport conveniently and un-noticed. I can takeoff from a small airport and easily fly 10 to 12 hours. But, I am limited to the amount of passengers, cargo and fuel that I can carry. Even flying small GA aircraft brings it's fun and uniqueness. There's nothing like showing up to an aircraft and being gone in less than 30 minutes. Fly them all. You have to fly them all to capture every aspect of aviation.
