Flickering Panel and Instrument Lighting

Featured Replies

Howdy. Just began in the last few weeks. The symptoms (multiple planes) are when dash lights (panel/instrument) are enabled they turn on as normal but soon they start flickering and flashing as if they had a short.  No rhyme or reason. Not every time but most.  I had a couple of lighting enhancements I bought on MP, runway and landing lights. I’ve disabled both in case it’s related but the issue remains.

Anyone else seeing this or has seen?  I’m stumped!

TIA,

What kind of aircraft? Carenado?

Not Carenado, at least not yet. Yesterday it was the inibuilads a300.  Today, it’s the BS King Air.  Again no rhyme or reason. Looking at Google I see this has been an ongoing and repeating issue for MSFS, often reported after a SU and sometimes remediated by patches from vendors.

I had these problems in the beginning but I never really found out the cause. it was mostly with Carenado aircraft, which isn't strange since these were among the first third party aircraft.
Do you have this issue only with addon aicraft opr also with defaults?

These issues have reappeared once, in a Piper Warrior over London, with lots of AI at night. I am not sure but if my memory serves me well, it had something to do with the amount of visible objects.

Believe it or not I know of at least one person who solved this by turning on motion blur.

I had it myself with JF's Arrow III and some default aircraft, about 18 months ago. Exactly as you say - it's like a loose wire making random contact. Eventually, after about three months, it just went away. I tried to work out why it had come and gone, but I couldn't think of anything.

Surely not everybody was kung fu fighting.

This is a known issue when encountering a significant amount of injected AI traffic, and is repeatable. (Example: Inject a ton of AIG traffic around areas like New York City). I can't remember the technical terminology that was the real root cause from a programming perspective, but the light malfunctions were tied to AI. Guessing there may be a limit as to light sources that can be displayed at one time in the sim.

Thanks and that makes sense.  About the same time this started I had come off of LT and replaced it with AI. I turned off LT because it as causing freezes in my system. Turning it off resolved the freezes but shorted out my electrical LoL!

Thanks again. It’s easier if you know the probable cause of an issue. That way one can make informed choices about system operations

Brillient problem identification.  This has been seen by some users in the Hjet.  The Hjet, like its namesake the Hondajet, automates the lights to a large extent, recognizing you are starting the engines and thus illuminating the beacon.  Turning on the taxi lights when you start moving.  Even turning on landing lights when you enter or cross a runway. Users have found that a light switch position on their controls that is in the opposite position from the automatic behaviour in the sim aircraft can cause a continuous loop of on/off/on/off/on/off.........   reaction from the sim and the conflicting controls assignment(s).  The same can occur when the switch position in other aircraft in the sim do not match the switch assignment for a controller.

I recommend cleaning up the controls settings for lights, even perhaps clearing them all to not-assigned.  See if that resolves the issue. Then start over with assignments, one by one.

Motion blur, lens correction, and depth of field are probably best off as they only slightly alter how the sim looks (unless set High ti Ultra)

I absolutely abhor motion blur, I can't even conceive of why one would want it on. But I've always had the other two on and never really even gave them a second thought.
