VRS Tacpack MSFS?

Recommended Posts

Installed FSX and downloaded VRS Superbug and Tacpack which I got in 2015 (don't go to secure.softwarekey.c*m in your purchase email as it always asks you to pay for "Renewal & Upgrade", just go to their support forum and the installers are there to be downloaded, no additional charge).

From my POV, we haven't seen any sophisticated military aircraft available for MSFS (probably Dino's F-35 is an exception but cant be compared to the great VRS). It's a drawback really when Microsoft decides not to support armamant equipped addon in their platform. Perhaps, I am not the only one who longs to see the continuation of their superb breakthrough in MSFS? Will MSFS 2024 remain a pacifist sim?

And please no need to remind us about DCS, we know and are aware of what DCS is. 😄

We all have different perceptions about this restriction implemented by MS.
Personally I fully support it and wish that it does not change.

There are indeed enough specialised software and simulators for war lovers, probably a vast majority of games are about fights, wars, conflicts of one kind or another. This contributes to a particular mindset that war, after all, is not that bad and can be fun!

MSFS should - in my opinion - remain purely a civil aviation simulation.

I partly agree, morally speaking. For entertainment purposes to some extents, it should be at least arguably an infamous policy.

You want to use Military aircraft than DCS is the best platform for you. Not MSFS.

I agree. However the world environment limitations and addon prices make DCS not the best option 😁

The DCS full world map is coming, and likely going to get here long before tacpack in MSFS.  Once that exists, there will literally be no reason for tacpack in MSFS... So it does seem like a waste a time to even start working on it.

I love flying warbirds, old and new, but operational weapons have no place in MSFS.

It is not a question of morality (your word)  at all, I am not a pacifist, far from it, I am a pragmatic.

Adding a military dimension to MSFS would necessitate a huge investment in programming  : ballistics, air and ground damage modelling, adversarial AI, combat avionics, campaign scenarios  etc, Quite a heavy job . I’d prefer Asobo not to lose focus on seasons, a more sophisticated ATC , air dynamics etc 😉. So much still to do .

PS and water masks 😂

Fair enough. I wonder if it can be done on the existing "programming" though, instead of from the scratch.

MS had three iterations of a Combat Flight Simulator 20-odd years ago. I dont remember whether it was the same engine than their civil sim though. I went with the competition then. Microprose and Jane’s 😉.

Is the DCS full world map an active project?  I couldn’t find any information on it.

I thought Tacpack was an excellent addition to FSX and the Superbug was superb! Bring it on!

there was a rumor some 5 years ago, on the DCS forum, of some joint work with Orbx. Never went thru I suppose.

Contrary to the various opinions expressed above, I do NOT wish for MSFS users to be prevented from using any feature or functionality, just because somebody believes it's better this way. MSFS can and should be any kind of simulator, weaponized or not.

Those who want to continue flying a Cessna painted in rainbow colors can do it if they wish, anywhere, any time.

Those who want to practise dropping some bombs or rockets on some targets, or dog fight together, or shoot some missiles are anything, should be allowed to do so as well, and I really can't see why it could be a problem for anybody here. I do not see what kind of interference you would ever get from that. Wishing for MSFS to keep limited to civilian aircraft and functionalities is just unbelievably selfish.

Concerning VRS and TacPack, this will simply never happen. We should be glad enough that TacPack and the SuperHornet were adapted to the various versions of P3D. If it takes them that long to model the twin-seats Super Hornet, it probably means they just can't do it.

Instead, I would be glad to pay for an official extension for MSFS to make it weaponized. Made by Asobo, or other *serious* third parties. Additional income for them, additional enjoyment for us. And no, DCS is not an option. I have DCS. I have the Mig-21 and the Tomcat addons for DCS. Flying the VRS SuperHornet in FSX/P3D was much more enjoyable for me. I just wish it would be more advanced (refuel, carrier ops and such, not the ridiculous gimmicks we had in FSX/P3D).
