And what do you use as external model?

For the visuals of the outside of the aircraft, the simple freeware plug-and-play connector that lets PSX control visuals inside MSFS also controls an external aircraft model. Info and screenshots here:

https://aerowinx.com/board/index.php/topic,7196.0.html

It's actively supported by the guy who developed it. He's very present on the forum and helpful, but the connection is truly plug and play. Just start both MSFS and PSX, then double-click on the router and the client, and now PSX is controlling all the visuals in MSFS, world and aircraft.

PSX displays the cockpit, MSFS displays everything else, but PSX controls it.

Too bad the price is comparable to the whole FSL A32x lineup (for which I also had to settle with 2D) 😂

Best regards,

Main rig: self built, AMD Ryzen 5 5600X with PBO enabled (but default settings, CO -15 mV, and SMT ON), 2x16 GB DDR4-3200 RAM, Nvidia RTX3060 Ti 8GB, 256 GB M.2 SSD (OS+apps) + 2x1 TB SATA III SSD (sims) + 1 TB 7200 rpm HDD (storage), Viewsonic VX2458-MHD 1920x1080@120 Hz, Windows 10 Pro. Runing FSX-SE, MSFS and P3D v5.4 (with v4.5 default airports).

Mobile rig: ASUS Zenbook UM425QA (AMD Ryzen 7 5800H APU @3.2 GHz and boost disabled, 1 TB M.2 SSD, 16 GB RAM, Windows 11 Pro). Running FS9 there... sometimes on just battery! FSX-SE also installed, just in case.

VKB Gladiator NXT Premium Left + GNX THQ as primary controllers. Xbox Series X|S wireless controller as standby/travel.

Sure, it's pricey, but I bought it in 2014, which makes about $27 per year.... and I haven't spent a penny on any payware aircraft for MSFS, so I think I'm coming out ahead of many MSFS users. 🙂

Full disclosure, I do pay for Navigraph charts, and I support Balt's RealTraffic because I like his work. (RealTraffic injects real-world traffic into the TCAS on PSX.)

Makes sense, you had already paid it for 😂. 2014 was just before my furious FS9 add-on purchasing days.

Apart from that, your comment allowed me not to be ashamed of using a 2D panel again these days. Gotta rediscover some beauties I have (although for P3D).

Fans of FS9 should get it, when I say that it doesn't really matter. The sim (PSX) is quite perfect for me--even though it came out in 2014. And with MSFS providing the "eye candy" visuals outside the window, this era ia really peak sim for me.

As somebody that gets disorientated through an eyesight issue when using Virtual Cockpits, please provide a link to this product so I can learn more about it (search engines suggest PSX is the Pakistan Stock Exchange)  - although I'm guessing the perfected customisation I have developed in FS9 over so many years would be hard to beat. My toes will have curled up before I spent as much time again on another product.

Scrub that, found the link higher up, now digesting . . .

John, play around on the PSX (Aerowinx) forum. You'll see it's full of good people asking lots of smart questions. The developer himself answers any direct question you ask him; he goes by "Hardy" on the forum. If you have any questions about PSX, or if you need a screenshot of anything, feel free to send me a message.

Or feel free to post any questions over on Aerowinx.

It’s worth every penny. PSX is also certified for use as a procedural trainer for r/w 747 crews - Lufthansa and Atlas Air use it for that purpose (among others). I’m sure they pay many thousands of dollars for the very same software we can buy for a few hundred dollars.

I also use it in conjunction with MSFS using the free PSX.NET.MSFS.WASM link software and it works flawlessly. I have two monitors - one for the MSFS full screen forward view and the other for the PSX panels. I have custom views assigned to the various panels with the numeric keypad used to select them. Left, center and right main instrument panels, overhead panel and center console. It just works.

Thanks, but before I even got that far I discovered the price. Each to their own but I'm afraid that it far exceeds what I personally spend on what is essentially for me a game. So I'll stick with what I have for now, I am perfectly happy with it. But it is interesting to have learnt of PFX, it certainly seems to have been a bit "X in the box for no publicity" against the other options.

Best regards,

John

FS9 is just mystical. I jumped in FS9 in 2010 and even now I use MSFS, I still remember those good old days.

My best moments in FS9 was flying the MD-11

Loved FS9. Such a stable flight sim platform in comparison to everything that has followed, for a lot less money and a lot more freeware.
However, everything has its time.

When I saw VDGS at airport sceneries, up-to-date AI airline timetables and liveries, updated airport layouts (including new terminals, runways and taxiways or just entirely new airports) and ever more detailed 'study level'/complex airliners, the urge to move on to P3Dv4 was too great.

What a ride it was for me for those 14 years, though!

Which other flight simulators allow to fly in different eras (Roaring Thirties, war time or retro sixties) with adequate environments)? Let me know.
