Does it go in the community folder, or does it have some sort of installer/store that wants to remain active on your system? (I hate all the vendor's wanting to have bloatware sitting on your system)

Yes, and it can be enabled/disabled with Addon linker, but I see no reason to disable it as I haven't noted any impact on FPS.
Very neat tool actually, love it.
But be careful! Chasing shooting stars alone in front of your monitor can quickly become addictive and become a serious reason for divorce!

Except that's not true. Contrails in the sky, smoke kicking up around you, northern lights, wakes and wash around helicopters, engine heat when looking out can be seen from the cockpit. It also works on other players, means you'll also see every other effect it has. I'd even argue some of the effects are just making life more difficult if you use external camera to fly.

I'll probably pick this up.  Looks interesting.  Only concern I would have is 2024 compatibility or even need for it in 2024.  Other than that question, it looks very nice.

Lots of people are saying this, however:

1. A lot of people thought many types of add-on would be unnecessary before MSFS2020's release. How wrong they were...
2. Even if similar effects do arrive with MSFS2024, an fx specialist dev will produce better effects than Asobo, IMO.
3. MSFS2024 is due out in November (per rumours). It's also likely to need a few months to iron out teething issues. That's about a year away from now.

Based on the above, I'm going to buy SimFX at some point.

Yeah, I understand the concern, it's of course very valid as we don't know anything yet but MSFS 2020 certainly proved us that while the product is very complete, it's also missing a lot of stuff. I have a feeling if effects had an overhaul and improved to this level, we'd have seen or known by now, from all the previews. I'm almost certain this product will still be viable come 2024 -- Though I have been known to be wrong 🙃
